But you have a BT landline. Just borrow a landline phone as you need to speak to them. Oh and I've edited my post above to show further info.

OK... what they are saying is if you keep your current length of contract they will charge you £5 a mth until the end of your contract. Saying your a BT TV YouView subscriber thats a cheek. If you ring them and renew for another 18 mths they'll give it to you for free.

Edit - Or you can ring them and downgrade to Lite (BTS 1 only) for free with no renewal of contract required.

    Hi VisionMan,

I am on the same boat as Feral Moon, having BT TV+Sports+BB+Line Rental on a 18 months contract (6 months left). Got called up by BT and was told that I have to pay 5 more to get BT sports EU otherwise I will be downgraded to lite.

I have seen your posts which state clearly that BT TV users don't need to pay more to have new sports channel. However both my experience and Feral Moon's contradict to yours. Can you please confirm?

They called you? Thats a new one and what they told you isn't correct. BT Sport is free for all users of BT TV. But the majority are being told they have to enter into new contracts to get it (for free).

Yes, they called me today and that was the first time I was made aware of that.

    I was given three options:
    1) pay 5 more to get EU channel
    2) downgrade to Lite
    3) Sign another 18 months contract to get EU channel 'free of charge'

I wasn't given any option of 'do nothing to get EU channel for free', even I am a BT TV user.

What should I do now? I have seen lots of posts in this thread saying even for BT TV users need to pay 5 more to get EU channel.

    So confused

Have you noticed that the results were achieved by pursuing BT? :)

Because, as frustrating as it can be that the complaints regulations allow the providers up to 8 weeks to resolve complaints, that's the way it is, and therefore, those who pursue BT- vigorously if necessary- are much more likely to reach a resolution first.

There are more populist answers that can play to peoples' anger with BT or any other provider, but what's the point in them if they don't lead to the results people are looking for?

Yes I have and at this stage it is not surprising as not enough time has passed to get the ombudsman involved. My advice has always been, complain to BT via resolver and escalate as and when Resolver prompts you to (all the way to the ombudsman if necessary). The early phone calls to BT were getting nowhere and it has been important that as many as possible keep up the pressure on BT by writing to them formally and not relying on a few others to complain on their behalf. Their early "threats" to not respond to complaints or especially to Resolver complaints was clearly nonsense. BT will be aware of Resolver and how it prompts complainants to escalate at the appropriate time. A complaint via Resolver sends a clear message to BT that you will get the ombudsman involved if they do not react appropriately. I think we are close to a complete cave in by BT. KEEP COMPLAINING!

So your advice is to do nothing then. Just sit back and take what's coming without kicking up a fuss.

Please show me where I said that because I didn't.

BT Complaints have phoned me and we did a deal .
Complaint was via the online form at the bottom of the page .
    http://btsupport.custhelp.com/app/answers/blank/a_id/53696/?s_cid=con_FURL_btsportreferral

Basic complaint was that i had paid off a Plus Net service and verbally signed to BT Broadband on consideration of BT Sport . At no time during the conversation with sales was a possible in contract change to paid from free BT Sport mentioned .
Part of my complaint was that BT are currently offering Infinity 1 with unlimited downloads and free BT Sport package for £1 more than my current capped contract . I pointed out that re contracting my current package would put me at a disadvantage as it expired in Dec .

After consultation with a manager the complaints guy came back with an offer > New contract from today unlimited Infinity one and a 12 month contract with full BT Sport .
Cost £23 pm less £7-50 special discount + Line rental .
As its a 12 month contract that also allows me to tie in Advance Line Rental to expire at the same time .

Note in both my complaint ans speaking to the complaints guy i was very very nice . Its not the CS guys at fault and i wanted him on my side .

In my opinion thats the perfect way to make a complaint. As if you verbally abuse or shout at the advisor on the other end of the phone all your going to end up with is one peeved-off advisor who won't lift a finger to help you.

As the original poster - my update, I complained in writing to the CEO and received a call from the executive office. I have been offered the full BT sport package included in my broadband and phone contract until next year. I have been a customer of BT for a very long time, not that I think that makes any difference these days.
They did agree with me that customers should have been advised that they could cancel the contract.

BT have agreed to release me from my contract (11 months or so).

They did not specifically say because of the £5 increase but to put my faith back into their company. I persisted through the resolver, not accepting any other forms of communication, even though they tried multiple times.

So there you have it, I really did not agree with the contractual change, pursued it and ended up with what I believe was fair; if they had treated me better on the phones then this might not have happened and I may have accepted a deal.

Additionally, I have started in contract with another ISP, got a letter from BT, an auto response telling of charges and whatnot, no problem I thought they will be quashed, then....

'You'll lose access to the BT Sport app when you move your broadband'

'You currently get the BT Sport app because you've got BT Broadband, but it'll stop working when you move to your new provider.'

    Yeah lol
