*Am I right to believe that I won't actually be charged the extra £5 a month as I have BT Youview box *
No don't believing it off your own bat .
I am waiting for BT to answer that same question as it would require a catchup and re contracting of broadband to match contract end dates .0 -

Please copy & paste the email FM, as there are multiple types.0 -

I read it as not remaining 8+ 18 but new 18 month contract .0

Copy & paste the wording FM, so others can see. Yours too JJ.0 -
Your BT Sport Pack is changing | View online version
The UEFA Champions League has a new home on BT Sport
Hello,
This season BT Sport is the only place you'll be able to watch the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League live. They're no longer on Sky Sports or ITV.
You'll find both competitions on BT Sport Europe. It's a brand new channel in your BT Sport Pack, which already includes Barclays Premier League football, The FA Cup, MotoGP™ and European rugby.
If you do nothing, your BT Sport Pack will cost £5 a month from 1 August 2015. But you can get it for free simply by renewing your BT TV and BT Broadband contract for 18 months.

OK... what they are saying is if you keep your current length of contract they will charge you £5 a mth until the end of your contract. Saying your a BT TV YouView subscriber thats a cheek. If you ring them and renew for another 18 mths they'll give it to you for free.
Edit - Or you can ring them and downgrade to Lite (BTS 1 only) for free with no renewal of contract required.0 -

I understood clearly what the email meant. What I don't understand though is that there isn't an option to either extend my contract (not that I have any intention of doing so) or to downgrade to BT Sport Lite on my account as others have described was available to them. And, as per my screenshot above, it looks as though I've already got the full BT Sport package with no mention of any extra charges or changes to my contract in my billing section.
Some people have suggested BT TV customers were sent the email in error and will continue to get BT Sport free of charge until existing contract ends, which for me is March 2016, because I also paid for a YouView box when I joined BT earlier this year. This is the point I was hoping someone might be able to clairify for me. I don't want to call BT as I have an aversion to using telephones.
ETA: could someone else please check their BT billing section to see whether the section under their BT Sport package looks the same as mine?0 -
Ring 150 and say "BT Sport." And you'll get through to a UK call centre. Clarify the situation with them. If you threaten to cancel they'll put you through to Retentions. They have the real discount powers.0

I'm assuming that would have to be made from a landline phone? I don't have one. I guess I'll just have to check the billing for next month when it's available to see whether then intend to add on the £5 charge and take it from there.0
