Have to say the update on the MSE page is a bit of a joke.
BT's legal team has now confirmed you can't leave BT broadband as a result of the BT Sport price change without paying a penalty.
No, that's what BT want us to think, not what's necessarily true. Really disappointed that MSE aren't pursuing this, considering how many people are being affected by this, and how deceitful BT have been.
  • Agreed a new BT Broadband deal for 12 months with free BT Sports for the duration of the contract. Now they want to charge me £5 a month extra. Surely this is not legal and they are breaking the terms of the contract I have with them? I have asked to leave the contract but they want £170 to terminate the contract.....this is completely unbelievable, even worse if I downgrade or remove BT Sports they will then start a new 12 month contract from that date!!! This is madness.

Same here. I assume we can drop the HD package, as the extra £1 is a 33.33% price increase over what we pay now?

I thought if you cancel just the Sport it didn't recontract you any further than your existing minimum term, but opting for Sport lite did..

That is how I am reading it. You can cancel all BT Sports without re-contracting. But if you downgrade to BT Sports Lite they will tie you in to a new contract.

I am thinking of cancelling altogether. I like sport but I don't like the way they are doing this.

I'm on a 12 month BB (ADSL2+ unlimited) & calls contract which started April 2015 (separate line rental saver) and have had all 3 BT Sport channels free in HD thru the app since its inception. Not willing to pay the £5/month for all I watch so decided to downgrade to Lite. Online link wasn't clear on exactly what I was signing up for contract-wise so I called 0800 800 150 instead and the Cancellation Team agent eventually gave me the option to downgrade to Lite with no contract renewal or pricing change (she tried the usual BT TV sell with or without activation fee but when I said I wasn't interested the 'downgrade without change option suddenly appeared on her screen' - her words!!) Suspicious maybe, but pretty painless really.
  • Does this apply to everyone? I switched to Bt Broadband in August 2013 and activated BT Sport under the free deal. I have the original email which states: "Your BT Sport Pack discount will continue as long as you've got BT Broadband"

I can't find any communication from BT about new charges for this and can't for the life of me find out details of my contract dates (despite traversing all nine circles of Hell that are the BT web-site - aka Circular "help" Paths R Us). Try looking for how to get your MAC code for example :-)

Less than keen to enter the 10th circle of Hell that is BT Customer Services.

    Thanks
    Stuart

And this is symptomatic of BT not having a clue as to their own terms, either!

Existing BT Sport Pack customers can take BT Sport Lite without the need to enter a new minimum contract term and it is free of charge to BT TV customers and App Only customers.

So I read that, from their own website, as being if you currently have BT Sport, you can downgrade to Lite without the requirement to take out a minimum contract term!

Certainly not what was said to me yesterday on the telephone, though!

    Hey,

I too do not like or agree with MSE's changing of their statement about cancelling contract whilst on BT Broadband; this is quite obviously BT's viewpoint.

I/we were sold our BT Broadband contracts under the marketing that you got BT Sport FOC. There was no stipulation to a possible price rise or change of situation whilst in said contract. They may view it as a separate contracted item now they have decided to raise the price but I do not.

In my mind this a clear cut case of either breaching the new regulations by changing the price mid way through your contract or at the very least and most definitely miss-selling BT Broadband by incentivising the customer with a 'free' extra. I was incentivised and I'll be damned if I'm going to let them get away with it.

I have tried BT on numerous occasions to come to a resolution, in which they have firmly said no to the FOC termination, told me that my complaint would 'do nothing' and just 'sit there' and have also stated that my written complaint would not be replied to. I have gone ahead and filed a complaint with the ombudsman that I wish to terminate my contract penalty free.

    See what happens.

(BT Broadband and free anytime calls: contract ends October 2015)

    Their arrogance is breathtaking!

I, like others on this thread, have used the MSE Resolver service to lodge my complaint. It is really easy to use and gives you prompts to escalate at the right time. I would recommend it to anyone. I have asked for early termination FOC or free BT Sport for the remainder of my contract.

To all of the people posting on this thread: It is not enough to simply post a comment and have a moan here and then do nothing else about it. BT have acted unacceptably and cannot be allowed to get away with their actions. I urge you to use Resolver to lodge a formal complaint and, if necessary, take it all the way to the ombudsman.

    you have BT Sport Lite

Which means you'll MISS OUT on all this:
    X UEFA Champions League
    X UEFA Europa League
X The FA Cup & MotoGPTM
    X European Rugby Champions Cup
    X Ultimate Fighting Championship
    .

What do you actually get for free then? Will the premier league still be on bts1?
