5mths left on my Infinity contract, 11mths on BT TV (YouView).

For now, I'd recommend doing nothing, as everyone has until the 1st Aug to make a decision. Plus BT may have a re-think on how they offer all these different deals, as up to now its been a highly confusing disaster.

Cheers, even after the BT Email I posted just logged into the BT Account and looked up My BT packages and it does say

BT SportBT Sport Pack on BT TV

    Your great sport

BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2, BT Sport//ESPN and BT Sport Europe on BT TV

So I think you are absolutely spot on, will just leave it as it looks like it is there.

How confusing are BT making this. They have also rung about renewing contract now too even though it appears we simply don't need to.

BT have announced a £1 increase for HD. Many Sky users who have rung up to cancel have been offered a £6.50 discount. So they will be paying £13.50 when the new packs kick in (not £19.99). Multiroom is to stay the same.

the deal is £7.01 for 12 months (ie) i will still be paying £7.01 per month when the bt sport europe channel kicks in on 1 August.

Sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick. But you pay £7.01 for BT Sport on the Sky platform without BT BB?

yes, that was the deal. The advisor even made the point that from 1 august that i would still only be paying £7.01 per month as part of my 12 month deal.

I have already paid the whole lot up front. :)

I could not believe how good the deal was myself.

to be fair it does not include HD which for the moment i am going leave alone as my picture on the non hd channels on bt is very decent.

BT are these days heavily into confusion marketing: i.e. making so many different offers and so many different pricepoints that the customer can't be bothered to work out which is best for them.
My response is to just cancel the whole thing. I never watch BT Sport anyhow and only took it when free with Infinity. However if you have tried cancelling it, it is noticeable there is no way to do this online and you have to phone them - I suspect this is done on purpose to make it harder to cancel.
My postings reflect my lifetime's experience and my opinion. You are quite welcome to respond with your experiences and option, whether similar or different.

Can I cancel my existing contract ?

I am a BT Infinity 1 subscriber, with 15 months left on my current BT contract.

I did NOT sign up for BT TV, I only get BT Sports Free using the App.

I'm not going to "do nothing" and start paying £5.
I'm not going to sign up to BT TV to get Sports "Free".
I will downgrade to Sports Lite.

But, I wouldn't mind using this opportunity to get out of my current contract !

My understanding is I could attempt to invoke "clause 57" of the BT T&Cs, but I wonder if I can "reasonably consider that you would be materially disadvantaged by the change".

My take is that I signed up a few months back and all BT sports was Free - and now it's not going to be.

Does downgrading to Sports Lite "materially disadvantage" me ?

My plan was to phone BT first to see if they will let me cancel, and if not use the Resolver service to raise a complaint.

Anyone else had success in similar circumstances ?

IMHO - forget whether downgrading to 'Lite' "materially disadvantages you..... to keep the packages you signed up for (i.e. the two BT Sport Channels and ESPN) then you are being required to pay an EXTRA £5 per month. THAT is the material disadvantage so play on that....

The problem you will have is that BT will say "fine, you are correct, clause 57 does allow you to cancel YOUR BT SPORT without penalty....."

You will then need to make the point that you signed up to phone/BB/sport as a complete package not individual products and that Sport was used as an inducement to get you to sign up to phone and BB and you would not have done so without that inducement.

BT will disagree and fob you off...

The only option then will be to go to deadlock and then take your case to the ombudsman - you will probably win if you put some effort in, but the truth of the matter is 99.99% of people won't bother...

Its not as difficult as you might think if you follow the process but you do need to put some effort in. I know, i've beaten EE twice through the ombudsman with much help from threads on here.

The answer that I got to this, from BT, was "no" it's not possible to cancel the broadband contract . But can cancel BT Sport .
I'll take it further, but can't yet as I haven't had notification from BT about it yet.

BT Infinity 2 customer, watch BT Sport on Sky.

At least you have BT Infinity 2, so presumably can take up the BT offer of free BT TV, and so get the full range of BT Sport for free.

Unlike myself, who with only 2.2mgb average broadband speed supplied by BT, cannot get BT TV, even though my broadband costs the same as those who can get up to about 15mgb speed.

They wanted a £30 activation fee from me to get BT TV.

Edited to add - sorry it was £35 per this page. They did try very hard to sell it to me..
