BT Sport fiver a month

I've cancelled BT Sport today, deleted the apps, had email confirming it's been removed, I'm not a sport fan just got it as it was free in case a rare occasion something took my fancy if nothing else was on.
Learn't a valuable lesson, mega easy to sign up but mega hard to get information to form a judgement whether to stay or go, MyBT designed for marketing not customer service.
I'll hold back next time from signing up.0 -
I'm in contract with bt for phone and broadband. I find the service good but v expensive compared to latest deals. I phoned up to try and use the recent bt sport charge as reason to cancel early without charge and was told the sport is a 'value added'service and does not justify a change in ts and cs. This is contrary to advice on this website. Are bt telly porkys?0

My scenario with BT is that same and I was offered the same options as below.PEN1
I called BT Sports and although I have 6 months to run on my contract they said I had 3 options
1. Pay the upgrade £5 per month from 1st August
2. "Downgrade" to Lite but with a new 12 month contract
3. Remove BT Sports
I choose 3 because I may want a new provider in 6 months.
Seems totally unfair practice - will try again after seeing the BT note you posted.0 -
I've just had a response from Ofcom about my complaint about BT's inertia selling of it's new sports package. This is the response, which tells me very little:
I would like to apologise at first for the delay in responding to you and thank you for your patience. I am now in a position to offer you some advice which I hope will be of use.
Ofcom is aware that BT is making changes to BT Sport from August 2015. Our understanding is that BT is seeking to add a new channel to the existing BT Sport package and to charge a new price of £5 to some customers. We are in discussions with BT following receipt of consumer complaints, some of which allege inertia selling of the new BT Sport product and complain about BT’s handling of complaints, to make sure that its conduct and contract terms do not treat existing customers unfairly. It is important that affected customers fully understand the changes BT is making and, if they do not wish to pay the charges, are able to exit their contract for BT Sport without having to pay a penalty.
BT has now made us aware of the options they are offering to customers as a result of these new changes:
Between now and 1 August, customers can:
· contact BT to cancel BT Sport altogether;
· downgrade the service to a reduced BT Sport Lite service which will continue to be free on BT Broadband (which they can do online via BT.com or by phone);
· subscribe to BT TV in order to be able to watch BT Sport (with the added new channel) for free; or
· pay £5 to watch on Sky or on the BT Sport App.
Should you have any difficulties moving forward with your chosen option, you should contact BT via https://www.bt.com/btsportreferral. This is a dedicated webpage which BT has set up to address any queries and/or complaints about customers affected by its changes to BT Sport.
I hope this information is of use.
That tells me they've had an awful lot of complaints, and that they're probably going to do nothing about it.
Time will tell."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Reads as what we know already this toothless watchdog adds nothing .0

Hi all,
Thanks for the feedback. I've updated the news story this morning with this information relating to whether you can cancel your broadband penalty-free:
'In general, the answer is 'no' although it's worth noting a few people in the forum have had some success. We had originally said you could cancel after unclear communication from BT but it has now confirmed that you can't leave BT broadband as a result of the BT Sport price change notification.'
Please do let me know if you have success cancelling your broadband contract penalty-free or haggling the price down. Many thanks, MSE Paloma0 -

Why can't you make clear in your articles that "In general the answer is 'no' " is BT's interpretation and that isn't necessarily correct at all....
How many times on here have we seen mobile phone providers for instance say "this change to our T&C's doesn't allow you to cancel penalty free..." only for tens if not hundreds of MSEers to take them to CISAS and win.
It really disappoints me when MSE takes the word of a company as gospel and then distributes it to hundreds of thousand people who trust it implicitly...... :mad:A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A
If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.0 -

Already struggling to get my head around this with ~5 months of 18 month contract remaining. Just got home to find a letter saying that HD service will increase from £3 to £4 per month from August to add to the mix. Grrrrrr.0
