BT Sport fiver a month

according to BT's own website when you login to MyBT it states that BTsport is "Inclusice" of what ever products you have (in my case phone and broadband).
Also in my case i was sold Bt sport as part of renewing my BT broadband and i asked if I would still receive the said channels free for the next 12 months in may.0 -
I have had a reply from BT regarding my BT broadband (in contract) / Phone & free Sport stating that the Fibre is a separate contract from my Sport. No surprise.
Does anybody have any documentary proof about the Sport offer being for the full term of the Fibre contract or is it just that our lack of barrister training led us to assume that it was?
Ofcom have granted all providers the power to change the terms, conditions and prices of contracts mid-term, provided they give at least thirty days notice and also give users the right to cancel without penalty if they are unhappy with the changes.
BT BB only users - Have to pay £5 wef 1st August, no need to re-contract. Or can switch from BB to BB and BT TV. New contract required (18 mths). Or they can cancel without penalty and move phone & BB services to another provider.
BT TV users - Do nothing, pay nothing and no re-contract required. You will get the new packages automatically, including 7 HD red button streams. It remains free.0 -
The question appears to me to be that whilst BT might believe that Broadband & Sport are separate contracts are they in fact sold as one contract? If they are then I agree that they can change the terms but I believe that they then must give the opportunity to cancel both contract rather than just one.
The inclusion of MotoGP was, I believe, heavily advertised as being part of the deal. Free MotoGP was the only reason that I went with BT.
I cannot find one of those old adverts that prove it all however.0 -
I was considering changing my Sky tv to BT as I already have phone and infinity broadband with them.
However upon checking details of my online billing I found I had been charged £3 pm for the free BT sports channels as they were in HD..... as we never watch these channels and were never advised of the charges added to my bill 11 months ago I requested a refund but BT customer service agents in India simply did not want to know.
They insisted an email had been sent advising me of the charges, but I had the email and it simply said renew broadband to continue with FREE BT sports channels.
3 times now agents have not contacted me to resolve various issues with billing and broadband, the agents in BTs Indian call centers have been ignorant and rude.
I have negotiated a better price to stay with Sky for my TV and switched to Plusnet for my phone and broadband, saving over £10 pm on the best deal BT would offer me and Plusnet call centers are UK based.0 -

Post above a bit rude IMHO
Anyway FYI, whenever I have spoken to BT, right up to "executive" level, they have maintained that customers are ONLY being allowed to cancel BT Sport and that the phone and BB are a separate contract.
I don't think they are correct with that, but that's what they are saying none the less.A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A
If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.0 -

Not saying that I agree with that either (which I don't) but they are correct in what they say, in that they have not changed the T&C's or prices of the phone & BB packages.
But for users who can prove they only signed up for phone & BB packages only because of BT Sport they would have a case. Maybe.0 -
The issue of "separate contracts" is obviously contentious where one service- in this instance, BT Sport- is a strong factor in a customer taking the other; and providers frequently sell/promote services as a "bundle", often to make the highest-priced element(s) appear more attractive.
In legal terms, though, BT Sport always had a separate contract, and even where it were "FREE", the terms & conditions always referred to a separately-charged service discounted to £0.00 in the tariff guide; thus, broadband & BT Sport were never deemed in BT's terms & conditions to be a package.

That's not to say that it isn't a point worth trying to reason with BT, irrespective that their copious terms & conditions seem to me, to have separated the services in a manner that hasn't been as obvious in their marketing.0 -
I agree.
........ But for users who can prove they only signed up for phone & BB packages only because of BT Sport they would have a case. Maybe.
How on earth could you prove that? My point is that in their advertising I believe that they linked the two contracts. I hope that they cannot now turn around and say they are two separate and unconnected contracts.
Anyway lesson learnt. Cancelling Sport now & leaving BT for everything else when my contract ends December. Not coming back.0 -

This is incorrect or unclear advise. I have BT BB and TV (standard, excluding entertainment) and I have to recontract for 18 months to not pay a fiver a month, or I pay a fiver a month. I spoke to 2 different BT customer service people who confirmed this and many people on this thread also have said the same thing. You have said in your post people in this position don't need to do anything, which is wrong based on my chats with BT, and will mislead people.
Where did you get your info for BT TV users you do nothing? Or do you mean it depends on the type of BT TV package you have?0
