BT Sport fiver a month

I had the two free sports channels, through our Sky platform, because it was included in my Broadband contract. The only way I could keep my existing contract (May) was to cancel all the Sports. If I wanted to downgrade to have the free Sports Lite channel I would have to have a new contract running from August. For the odd league match, not worth changing.
We only watched the Moto GP and one or two footie matches (chaps can go to the pub if they want to watch from now on!) so not really worth paying an extra £60 a year. Have no interest in Rugby, European footie.
The promise of having Moto GP on one of the free channels was one of the reasons I didn't switch supplier last renewel time, something to consider next May.0 -

Apologies for joining late but, having read through the various threads and having contacted BT myself, I'm confused. I have BT BB and BT TV, with around 6 months left to run on my original 18 month contract.
Having just had a chat session with BT, this does not appear to be the case. It's either a misleading or inaccurate statement - my monthly payment is going up by £5 unless I make a change. As outlined elsewhere, the options are:- Cancel BT Sport
- Downgrade to BT Sport Lite (an inferior product, and forced to enter into a new 12 month contract)
- Pay an extra £5/month
I'm obviously not happy with the situation, as I'm being forced to change the package I originally subscribed to (albeit by either loss of features or a price hike).
I can't believe this is not deemed a significant enough change that I can't cancel my contract!? I hope I missing something...

Thanks to Marleyboy #115 for the inspiration and info to put leverage on BT over the BTSport fiasco.
I have successfully agreed an end to contract with BT with 3 months to go and without paying a termination charge (so far).
My conversation with the BT operative was interrupted with many pauses and waits, as at every stage the lady had to check with someone before replying.
I had not made a lot of progress, just prevarication. The thing that changed the attitude was quoting clause 57 of their T&Cs to them.
However, they immediately agreed to terminate my contract without termination fees within 7 days. Do not accept this offer as it would leave you without broadband, landline and you would lose your telephone number as you would be ceasing your line.
Just inform them that you will sign up with a new provider who will contact them about moving everything over. They said that to do this would incur a termination fee. I requested that they put that statement in writing, so I could take the matter up with Ofcom and the Ombudsman. After that there was a very long pause indeed before the lady came back to inform me that if there was a termination charge on the final bill, I should call them and it would be cancelled.
From all this I gather that in spite of section 57 of their T&Cs they do not have a process for terminating a contract early without imposing a termination fee. If true, that just adds to the feeling that some large organisations treat their customers in an arrogant way.0 -
WOW... I think just one post would have done the trick.... :rotfl:A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

Thats not how a forum works. Posting once does not tell a specific user they have a message of personal interest to them .. they have to search for it. But hey sorry for trying to help0 -
Thanks for the info LGP!
I assume I just start here: ombudsman-services.org/complain-now-communications.html
Hi MJ,
Before the ombudsman will look at your case, you need to have exhausted the BT complaints process and be "at deadlock" (which needs a letter from BT to say as much) or have unable to reach agreement for 8 weeks.
So you need to e-mail BT with a "Formal Complaint" and explain that you are happy with the changes and that you want what you originally signed up for i.e. all BT Sport and ESPN channels for free. Also put in the letter that if they are not willing to honour the original agreement (or nearest equivalent in your favour) then you wish to be able to cancel ALL of your services with them with no additional fees / charges / penalties....
Finally state that if they are unwilling to take either option above then you would like them to send you a deadlock letter so that you can take the matter to the ombudsman.
They will try and fob you off but whatever they reply with, post it up here and we can help.A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

Not knocking you for trying to help....
"How forums work" though is if someome is interested in a topic enough then they would check back and read the newest messages on the thread...
Have a look at the "multi-quote" function if you really must reply to lots of messages at once.
Hope this helps....A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

I have BT Fibre and BT TV with youview. (£12.50/month)
I called earlier this week and spoke to an English member of the call centre who gave me the 3 options:
1) Renew 18 month contract and pay nothing (didn't state whether discounts would be affected)
2) Stay as I am and pay the £5 extra per month
3) Downgrade to BT Sport Lite but I would have to renew for 12 months.
I was given no option to cancel, and no option to keep it free and not renew as Northern Mum had mentioned at 10:01 today.
The Advisor has it completely, utterly wrong. This change is free for users on BT YouView (BT TV).
1) You don't have to renew your contract to get the new package for free (at no extra cost).
2) Stay as you are and do nothing/pay nothing.
3) Again not true for users of/on BT TV.*
*It should be noted that users of/on BT YouView don't actually have the option to cancel because their terms, conditions and prices aren't changing.0 -

Is that true? So existing BT TV customers don't need to do anything and they won't be hit with the £5 a month charge (until their contract ends)?
It's so confusing. I have 12 months left of a Broadband/TV package but when I log it says I need to extend my contract or pay £5 a month to get BT Sport for free.0
