Is that true? So existing BT TV customers don't need to do anything and they won't be hit with the £5 a month charge (until their contract ends)?

It's so confusing. I have 12 months left of a Broadband/TV package but when I log it says I need to extend my contract or pay £5 a month to get BT Sport for free.

According to the advisor I spoke to this morning it IS true (see my earlier post 10.01am this morning). I mistakenly tried to extend my contract following the online link but transaction didn't complete. The advisor said this was because I couldn't extend my current contract, and I would get continue to get BT Sport free (as I have BT TV) under my existing contract terms.

She also said the £5 charge was aimed at customers who don't currently have BT TV. I have made a note of the advisor's name and office in case of future problems!

Thanks, I'm going to call them tomorrow and check. I mostly want to tell them that they've handled this badly though and I don't agree with their sneaky ways.

I have bt infinity2 & bt tv with bt sports.
Email today to say I will be charged the £5.

A lot of conflicting info on here, why would I get an email about £5 charge if not applicable to those with BT TV?

Shall phone & see what they say tomorrow.

What amazes me is the BT love in that is on the BT community forum - Some see this all to be the customers fault!

some large organisations treat their customers in an arrogant way.

    Exactly right.
After many years with BT, (phone and broadband) I have finally had enough. For some reason known only to themselves, they seem unconcerned about whether I stay with them or not.
I've now switched to Sky for a lot less than I've been paying to BT.
And I shall switch again in twelve months when Sky increase their price (as they surely will).
  • I was considering changing my Sky TV to my BT broadband package but upon checking my bill with BT found there were charges for past 10 months I knew nothing about.

BT did not refund me and agreed to reduce my broadband by just £2.64 pm on infinity 1 unlimited, promised to call back next day with better deal but didn't.

I was also advised I did not need to pay the £7.50 pm for unlimited calls so they removed it to reduce my bill, but first months call charges are £17.40.

When I tried to canx they offered infinity 2 for same price as infinity 1, they promised if I signed up and contacted tech support the next day a new V5 hub would be sent to me to replace the old dodgy V3 hub, but tech support guys in india refused to do this, and my broadband speed was only 48-50 when the range estimated was 54-78 for infinity 2.

I called after 6 days and canx the new infinity 2 package, but 3 weeks later found I was still on it, I had agreed to stay with them on infinity 1 paying only £16 pm instead of the full price over £24 but it had not been changed.

I contacted billing support... again in India, they as good as said I was a liar as they had no record of me canx the infinity 2 contract after 6 days.

They had my account history which confirmed I spoke with customer support on the day I told them I canx, I was promised they would listen to the recorded conversation and get back to me within 5 days, that was 10 days ago.

I am now staying with Sky for my TV and signed up with Plusnet for my phone and broadband.... so well done BT instead of adding TV to my package you have lost a 'valued customer' (their words), and all because of over charging, broken promises (3 call backs I never received), ignorant rudeness from Indian call centres and plain incompetance.

I am broadband and calls only with free BT Sport. Rang up yesterday and was able to downgrade to BTSport Lite and was categorically advised by the operator I was not entering into a new 12 month contract. I did of course keep a note of the date and exact time I phoned in case what he told me is not the case - but he seemed very sure.
