Even Microsoft Money 2005 is working ok.
You must have been very lucky! The net's awash with postings from people (like me) getting the "Money requires Internet Explorer 6 to function properly" error message when trying to load Money.

There are registry edits which apparently work (at least for a while) but how safe is that?

I use money 2005, got that message. Am used to Money not working after new versions of windows. It happened with both Win 7 and 8.1. I used the registry fix and so far it works and no bad effects. Early days I know!
I did back up the registry beforehand in case and will keep the detail of what switches were changed just in case.
  • Hi All

can someone specify what drivers I would most likely need to update (for a laptop), in order to to update to W10 (currently using W7)?

I presume it is something akin to:

    video driver
    mouse / trackpad
    audio driver / speakers
webcam (although have never used this function lol)

Would I find a fuller list in something like Device Manager?

Also, should I obtain these updated drivers prior to the upgrade?

    TIA

Might also be worth getting the motherboard's Win10 chipset drivers.

Didn't bother with anything, just let the updates occur, eventually it got round to loading up the non-MS stuff from the Net.

I think some people will be lucky like you were, but not everyone.

I think it depends on the device and what drivers are available/ have been written.

I've certainly had to install some drivers myself which the automatic update hasn't found.

Device Manager is a reasonable place to look - I took screenshots of it beforehand to see how much came back with Windows 10 and give me an idea of what was missing.

But I'd also head to the website of the laptop manufacturer and get the latest drivers you can. Windows 8.x drivers might be usable if there aren't drivers for Windows 10.

Oh and a complete backup image of the Windows 7/8.1 setup is always a good thing to have before attempting the upgrade.

Yes, all 4 machines I've successfully upgraded to Windows 10 I made sure the existing OS was fully updated. If the supplier installed a program to d/l driver updates I'd run that too.

At the end of the day, it's network/wifi and video drivers that are critical to let you get back online.

Post-upgrade I needed to track down drivers for my HP laptop's SD-Card reader but that was about it.

Now that 30M+ machines have been upgraded, a quick Google will likely surface any common issues peeps have found.

I'm asking this on behalf of my housemate who's upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1.

In the Mail app for Windows 8.1 there was a checkbox to select all emails (in this instance Junk) and delete them in one fell swoop.

However the option appears to be missing in Windows 10? I've had a quick look at where I'd expect to see a setting but came to a dead end.

    Cheers!

Thank you. I've submitted feedback to Microsoft to see if they'd reinstall the feature in a future software update.
