I have just updated a Toshiba Satellite PRO L450D-12X laptop to Win10 but it's still a bit sluggish and I am now thinking a doing clean install.

Will I have any problem with drivers or has MS got them all covered now?

Is it still running on 1GB of RAM?

Think about upgrading to 4GB of RAM for £23 and then running a clean install of Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Then you can decide if you want to move on to Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. An SSD for £50 will also make a big difference, but perhaps you won't want to spend that much on an older machine.

Drivers are down to the manufacturer not Microsoft .

Special mention there goes to useless Sony "Our team of technical engineers are currently hard at work fully testing the compatibility between our VAIO personal computers and Windows 10, and developing drivers and software, in order to ensure that your computer will be compatible with the latest operating system from Microsoft."

And it looks like it will take months for them to release stuff :rotfl:

Stinker of a CPU that is only a single core, not worth spending a penny on it.

At least Sony are working on some Windows 10 drivers.

I fear people who have computers made by some other manufacturers won't be so lucky.

But AFAIK they are the only one with big warnings not to upgrade or all sorts of horrible things (including hardware damage) might happen

Found a desktop USB microphone in the parts-bin, so can now 'hey, Cortana' on the PC. Could be handy.

Nonsense. Crap CPU yes. But still usable. My Acer Aspire One ZG5 with it's Intel® Atom™ Processor N270 is still usable.
Fine for general browsing and Office with enough RAM.

Ridiculous releasing that machine with 1GB of RAM.

Usable is a very subjective term.

Ridiculous releasing that machine(Toshiba) with 1GB of RAM. Probably close to unusable.

My ZG5 was supplied with 512MB of RAM. Totally useless. Put it in the cupboard and forgot about it....until I decided to upgrade the RAM to 1.5GB. Transformed the machine. Now run Windows 7. An SSD would make all the difference, but not willing to spend more as I already have an iPad and more.
So I would suggest that upping the RAM for £23 if the Toshiba is still on just 1GB would be worth it.

    It's got 2GB(2x1GB)
The laptop is used for MS Office applications and general internet browsing only.
I am sorting it out for a friend and bought one of these http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/sandisk-120gb-ssd-sdssda-120g-g25-35-27-amazon-potential-31-01-with-bespoke-offers-2259284 the other day for another machine.I would be prepared to put in the Toshiba instead of reinstalling on the original HDD if it improves performance significantly.
