So im getting this notification on my tool bar to dl Windows 10

I like to keep up to date with things and this says free upgrade. What does that mean 'free' does this mean free upgrade with nothing to pay or does it mean free upgrade, then pay something after its installed? Its hard to find any clear answer.

All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.

I plan to get a new desktop later this year, so shan't bother to upgrade this one. But the annoying bit is that there doesn't seem to be any way of removing the icon from the system tray.0

Reserve your copy and it should go away.
I know it seems silly to reserve something that's digital and free, but it help Microsoft know what sort of server capacity they need to put in place for release day.0 -

When is release day?
The icon has just appeared on my task bar offering me the chance to reserve.
I'm currently on Windows 7 Starter, is reserving Windows 10 a good idea or not?0 -
Can you upgrade to 10 from 7 starter? I doubt it.If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0

I shall probably reserve it, but I need to find some reassurances before I install it, such as ...
1. It says it will be the 'full version' of Windows 10 but leaked information shows that there will be two OEM versions, Windows 10 and Windows 10 Pro with different OEM price points. So I wonder which version the upgrade will be. I paid out for Windows 7 Ultimate and I'll be a bit miffed if all I get is the bog standard version of 10 even though it will be free!
2. I need to know whether 10 will cope with the legacy software I still run under 7, such as an old Version 8.1 of Paintshop Pro and Nikon Capture version 4 as examples.
3. I also need to know whether there will be drivers for some of my old hardware such as my treasured HP LaserJet 1050 printer.
4. Will there be a compatibility program you can run that will report anything that might not run properly before you commit to installing 10?... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0
