When is release day?
The icon has just appeared on my task bar offering me the chance to reserve.
I'm currently on Windows 7 Starter, is reserving Windows 10 a good idea or not?
Not known yet but rumours are late July.... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0 -

I have absolutely no idea...I'm clueless when it comes to computers:o
However, I have been offered it today! Surely they wouldn't offer it if it isn't possible?0 -

Windows 10 might be OK but what about peripherals, printer, scanner, router, monitor and what about software on the PC already. I have some old programmes (Microsoft Money for example) that runs on Windows 7 but will not run on 10, so I won't be going to 10. I thought about dual booting but having just bought a new machine with an SSD there isn't room for 2 O/S on it.0 -

Thats one option, but knowing how fast people "order" a copy may help understand how many people will try and download it on launch day.
Home users will probably upgrade quickly, business users are more likely to take their time.0 -
Looks like ALL versions of 7 are upgradeable to 10. Whether you SHOULD upgrade is another question...

Is the upgrade free or not? Its free to upgrade, but is there then a fee to pay, how long is this upgrade free for if it is infact free? All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0

Getting the option on my win 7 machine back home but not on this 8.1 laptop. Not sure why as the update that triggers it is applied. The scheduled task seems to be failing on a code used for connection issues and I'm currently running through a 3G MiFi. Will try it when I'm back home to see what happens.0

The Windows 10 release date has finally been confirmed, with the eagerly awaited OS to begin rolling out globally on July 29.
Having long been the subject of much rumour and speculation, the Windows 10 release date has now been officially outline by Microsoft, and the software is coming free.
Windows 10, which will look to unify Microsoft’s strategy across, PC, tablet and mobile devices, will be introduced across 190 markets on day one, including here in the UK.
Set to be available as a free upgrade to all PC users currently running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, the new OS will be introduced for mobile devices later in the year.
“Today, Microsoft announced that Windows 10 will be available beginning July 29 in 190 markets globally as a free upgrade to customers running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1,” an official spokesperson confirmed.
They added: “Built with help from more than four million people around the world, Windows 10 marks the start of a new era of personal technology, designed to empower people to do great things.”
Outlining the upgrade process, the Redmond-based manufacturer added: “Consumers will have one year from July 29 to take advantage of the free upgrade.
“Once a Windows device is upgraded to Windows 10, Microsoft will continue to keep it current for the supported lifetime of the device—at no cost.
“Those who want to be among the first in line for the free Windows 10 upgrade can reserve a free copy in the coming weeks.”

So are they saying if you have 8.1 you can dl the software for free, and it will stay updated for free. There will be no cost to the people who take the free software for that 1 year period? I have seen if you upgrade you cannot go back to what you had. This is my concern, I dont mind downloading it and giving it ago, then 1 year down the line they say you have to begin paying for it. to find you are snookered. All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0
