If it's not broke, don't fix it.
This aggressive strategy by microsoft just makes people suspicious they're going to be nailed further diown the line. If every other OS was 100 quid and this one's free, people thinking 'you get what you pay for.'0 -
So are they saying if you have 8.1 you can dl the software for free, and it will stay updated for free. There will be no cost to the people who take the free software for that 1 year period? I have seen if you upgrade you cannot go back to what you had. This is my concern, I don't mind downloading it and giving it ago, then 1 year down the line they say you have to begin paying for it. to find you are snookered.
Download and install it in the first year to a qualifying system and its a free upgrade. Not time limited as in free for a year, free forever.
You must have a genuine Win7/8 Licence to qualify. Until Microsoft announce it further what would happen if you break or rebuild a system and have to re-upgrade it after that year is over is unclear, as is if you don't like it and revert to 7/8 and then have to upgrade later on.0 -
the way to go could be:- take a disk image of your W7/8 machine IMMEDIATELY PRIOR to applying the 10 update (not sure it should be called an upgrade yet, maybe for 8.x
) and then if you don't like 10, wipe the hdd and re-instate your 7/8 image......
same goes for rebuilding a duffed 10 install - just re-instate your backup image....

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
I have reserved this but I have got a back up for windows 8 just in case anything goes wrong ....Think I will wait and see how others rate it first.0

As always an Acronis True Image on a separate drive of current setup .
But the feedback and comments i see for 10 suggests MS have got it right .
As to price not a clue as to Win 8 price as that was nearly free at £15 .0 -
Click the icon top left of the screen and it will give a number of options, one of which is to check if your computer will be suitable for the upgrade - simples0

I am assuming that MS will not be offering this upgrade in DVD format - only upgrades through downloads ?
What about upgrading Win 7 professional - will this entitle me to Win 10 professional ?
Also - I seem to remember - when Win 10 was first on the cards - MS mentioning free 3D glasses with every install ????
Will Classic Shell be 100% compatible with Win 10 by then ?
My laptop runs Win 8.1 upgrade - so apparently does not qualify for a free upgrade !!0 -
When is release day?
The icon has just appeared on my task bar offering me the chance to reserve.
I'm currently on Windows 7 Starter, is reserving Windows 10 a good idea or not?
Well the offer app does a compataibiltiy check working in the background and it will tell you if something won't work or if you have a compatibility problem.
I'd reserve it worst comes to the worst you can always ignore and cancel the download when it's released.
I'm running Win7 Ultimate and everything is good to go for the upgrade. But I'll be doing a FULL disk image before hand just in case it goes FUBAR... ^_^Laters

I've just spotted this.
Not sure I want it. I hate the current Windows mobile/tablet interface.
Have reserved one, but will look more closely into actually downloading the software when more information is available in July.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Just reserve it, if offered, nothing to lose.
W10 in the latest preview is running great on my laptop.
Making a backup before install is just sensible.
I'll be putting it on the desktop on the 29th, no point hanging onto the past, even though I quite like W8.1.
I tried StartMenuX in the preview out of curiosity and it works so it looks like they haven't broken TP start menus, if that's your preference. I stopped using them once 8.1 was out as they weren't needed really.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you
