Getting the option on my win 7 machine back home but not on this 8.1 laptop. Not sure why as the update that triggers it is applied. The scheduled task seems to be failing on a code used for connection issues and I'm currently running through a 3G MiFi. Will try it when I'm back home to see what happens.

    showing on my 8.1 machine

So, should I upgrade or stick with Windows 3.1 ? :D

Only just saw the icon, and reserved it.

I read that Windows 10 was going to be free a few months ago, and was really eager to upgrade two Vista tower machines. What a bummer, 7 and 8 only!

So how do people who build their own system from scratch install Windows 10? BUY a Windows 7 or 8 OS, and then get a FREE upgrade?

Obviously I want a free Non-Upgrade version, WITH Media Center.

Windows 8 was pretty crummy, but I only paid about £25 for it, and they threw in the Media Center if you were quick about it. A real pain, if you put the directory for Temporary Internet files anywhere else except drive C: , the Store doesn't work.

    pick up a 7 licence

There is no Media Center in Windows 10 and as far as I can tell, it won't be an option.

No Windows 10 for me then.

Use Kodi, it's much better than WMC.

Can't understand why so many people want to be first in line. I'll be waiting until at least a few million heroes have gone over the top before I put my pc in harm's way...

    Count me in as well.:D

That is an absolute classic Dave:rotfl:

I am actually using MS Word and Excel 2000 SR professional on my machine.

    It's a good point.
I seriously doubt that there will be any update of recovery partitions. Without any recovery partition and no media I'm guessing there would be no "repair" path possible and you'd have to rely on your own backup images.

one of the FAQ somewhere stated it would overwrite any existing recovery partition, so yes you will need to image your system immediately prior to applying the update, and immediately after as it will not create a new W10 recovery partition.
