How do I disable CORTANA in Win 10 ?
I see that it is using up resources (60Mb RAM according to the Task Manager) - I do not see any use for it and anyway - how do I run it ?
When I type "Cortana" in to search - it doesn't appear - so I want it off my PC.

Managed to survive Windows 10 for 24 hours. Now back to where I belong. What a hideous day it was! Nothing works and if I want to watch a video it totally crashes or something weird happens. Not looking forward to go back to it...
Thanks to those who help us to win !

Whats interesting is mine is a HP laptop as well, so wonder if its a HP issue

After working once its now doing the same as I mentioned before where it is not shutting down properly- just has the light on etc

Try disabling the fast start up, go into power settings to find this page and untick 'fast start up box'

EDIT: Ticking that box does not solve the problem!

Fast Startup means that when you Shutdown in Windows 8.x or 10, it doesn't *really* shutdown - it is basically a variant of Hibernate.

It means that if you have Fast Startup enabled, the old 'have you tried turning it off and on again' technique doesn't always work with a Shutdown and you need to Restart, or do a 'full' shutdown.

To do a full shutdown I use this command in the Run dialog or command prompt:
    shutdown /s /t 0

How is everyone finding Windows 10?

I'm reluctant to update from Win 7 just yet as Win 7 works flawlessly and there's no doubt going to be bugs in Win 10.

Think it's worth waiting for all the bugs to be ironed out before upgrading?

I have disabled Fast Start Up (see previous post and picture) but it still does it.

When I shutdown, it leaves the following lights on:

During the hour I have been away from the laptop it's also used 10% of my fully charged laptop. Now this is a feature I do not like about Windows 10 at all. When I want to shutdown my laptop I expect it to shut down, not go into a Hibernate mode!

Would like to report this issue to both Windows and HP!
