Yeah because I formatted the laptop which came with Windows 7.
But no CD came with the laptop.
If it came with Windows 7 pre-installed you should be able to just download a genuine iso and it should activate either automatically or by phone. As it's a laptop I doubt this didn't come with some version of Windows pre-installed. If it was originally Vista and a pirate version of 7 installed you may have problems.

And friend of mine gave me Win 7 CD with RemoveWAT program. (which according to him will activate the windows).

I thought if I could go back to Windows 7 and then I could use the upgrade feature.

Brand name and full model number of laptop?

Oh for that I would have to check in half an hour.
I will be on my lunch break and will go home and check.

But i cannot recall any sticker underneath. Will double check.
Also this laptop was in the possession of kids. So you can imagine wear/tear.

I will get back to you shortly.
    Thanks

You can auto-detect the Service Tag by going to this DELL support page

I am not using the Dell laptop in question.
I am at work on HP workstation with limited access as IT has blocked a lot of features. :(

I have downloaded win10 to my Dell laptop and all seems OK.
    The original OS was win7.
If I ever have to do a full restore will it go back to win7 and if it does how can I get win10 upgrade again.

I meant when you got home and were on the DELL machine.
There is no issue with your DELL, as they have supplied a Genuine Windows 7 licence for that machine. I just need to check as to whether it has been applied. If not, we can apply it.
Have sent you a PM. Carry out the instructions on the DELL.
