I rebuilt my laptop on Friday and spent most of Yesterday updating it to Win 8.1 - I discovered that KB3035583 automatically reappeared on it - despite my deselecting it from Win updates - I resent MS for assuming that everyone wants to upgrade to its insidious OS and for that reason will NOT be upgrading !!

I understand that, even if we do not want to upgrade - we will ALL be forced to download almost 4Gb of data files - how can MS even get away with this ?0 -
win 10 users ,go into settings (box - right toolbar) / system privacy , then down to background apps , and uncheck ones definatly not being used , I don't use "groove music" or xbox , why do I need them running in the background?0

A quiff. 10 years too late with my hair.
I could care less if people want/dont want W10.
Its a thread about W10. If people dont want it,then dont get it.
Why feel the need to post about it?
Then you challenged my answer.
So, you do seem to care...0 -
My test laptop has not been used for a few weeks until yesterday.
It ran some updates, but remains on Build 10074, forcing it to check, results in 'device up to date'.
I'm on the 'fast path' updates.
Same again today,.
Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Not sure why transparency would be a deal breaker, but, obviously it is. There are always going to be W7 users hanging on for as long as they can, just like the XP lot. No doubt getting increasingly smug about the fact as time goes on.
It's their choice and they are entitled to it.
Anyway, enough about the Old..............W10 I've not found anything that hasn't worked, except the Calendar/Mail app. For some reason it's not syncing Gmail or Google calendar properly. Anyone else used it for those?
Windows 10 still hasn't done away fully with Windows 8's shitzophrenic UI.0 -
Same again today, .
AFAIK Microsoft has stopped distributing Insider builds and registering clean installs from ISO as they are testing their systems in readiness for 29th July.My test laptop has not been used for a few weeks
10074 dates from early May so it's been quite a few weeks...0 -
I had hoped for a technical reason.
Not its different and doesnt look pretty enough.
If you have a blinkered view and all you are interested in is the number of MIPS and whether you can plug in a USB or whatever device, then you are free to grade it on that.
Me, I consider the UI to be an essential part of Windows (maybe the clue is in the name...).
It's not that it's different; it's that it doesn't follow the science of user interface design, which is really quite technical and encompasses a broad range of disciplines at quite technical levels.
As for handling "different", right now I'm doing this on a Mac, I've got another Linux PC up which is running an XP VM to rip a DVD to a shared drive, I've got another Windows 7 PC ripping some CDs into iTunes, and I've been messaging on an iPhone. Now, all of those systems are different, so something being different per-se is not an issue for me. When it is an issue is when it is different and deficient.0 -

No, it's definitely been used this month, and certainly long enough to check for updates.
It would only have been used in the evening, so I wonder if the update service was busy with US downloads?
Perhaps I should have forced updates?
I was going to revert to Win 7 and grab Win 10 that way.
2006 Dell laptop limited to 1x 2GB ram due to a knackered slot, 64GB SSD and it's all worked well.Move along, nothing to see.0
