    But I did not get the banner so how do I reserve it? I uninstalled kb3035583 and then reinstalled it but that did not change anything

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-win_upgrade/i-want-to-reserve-my-free-copy-of-windows-10-but-i/848b5cce-958b-49ae-a132-a999a883265b
    I'd personally not reserve it unless you have to have the latest thing ASAP. Wait a couple of months for the dust to settle and then get the upgrade from the ISO which is current at the time.
    If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

    "OK , had a machine here that I want to try the update setup on , clean install of win 8.1 , ALL the updates done , but would it offer me win 10 , umm no!

    found this on the inside previewers web forum

    a nice simple command line task for you to run , this makes Microsoft release the "reserve" icon to the machine.

    it will run in a loop , if you have , win 7 without SP or an unregistered version of 8/8.1 , or a version that will not be supported for the free update

    open notepad , copy from here and paste into notepad

    EG QUERY "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\UpgradeExperience Indicators" /v UpgEx | findstr UpgEx
    if "%errorlevel%" == "0" GOTO RunGWX
    reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Appraiser" /v UtcOnetimeSend /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
    schtasks /run /TN "\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser"
    :CompatCheckRunning
    schtasks /query /TN "\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser"
    schtasks /query /TN "\Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser" | findstr Ready
    if NOT "%errorlevel%" == "0" ping localhost >nul &goto :CompatCheckRunning
    :RunGWX
    schtasks /run /TN "\Microsoft\Windows\Setup\gwx\refreshgwxconfig "

    then save it as a non txt file with the name of ReserveWin10.cmd

    save it , (I dumped it in sys32) run command prompt and the file , if you are running the correct version of windows , then the reserve icon will appear . "

    there you go ,,,

    You may want to revisit both posts, the 1st word is much more likely to be REG not EG and its not clear ( depending on your screen settings) some lines may be split by the forum and what's a new line as demanded by the batch code.

    As an example consider

    START CODE

    REG QUERY "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\UpgradeExperience Indicators" /v UpgEx | findstr UpgEx

    NEWLINE

    if "%errorlevel%" == "0" GOTO RunGWX

    NEWLINE

    and so on so its clearer where the real code line breaks are.

    A few minutes ago, Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, revealed that the very first such update would go live today for Windows 10 build 10240 users, so keep an eye on Windows Update in the next few hours to get it as soon as it becomes available.

    Aul hasn't yet revealed what exactly is new in this update, but he did explain that just like all the other patches, it would ship via Windows Update and install automatically, but you can also check for it and download manually.

    If Gabriel Aul thinks I'm going to "keep an eye on Windows Update in the next few hours to get it [an update to 10240] as soon as it becomes available." then he's sadly mistaken.

    I don't suppose he's even considered thinking about you, even for a nano second.
    He was, however, thinking about those who were really wanting the update.
