This only applies to xp then not w7,w8, or w10. Dream on.

It applies to every OS even *nix and Mac. The differnece is XP will NEVER get patches to close the holes, a supported OS may if they are found by others.

Leave those alone that choose to use XP. They have been told enough times, they are the ones that have the Sword of Damocles hanging over them.

They put others at risk by being part of a botnet.

I want to know why they are giving away this new version... They have made everyone pay for the previous versions.

    Am i just being cynical?

1: to cut down on support , expect support to be reduced for the older systems soon , and win 8 support to be stopped in much less a time frame than the win xp setup

2: everything will now be "apps" , some free , most paid for , just like google apps store and the apple things

The more users on the 10 baseline the easier it is for MS. Vista will go the same way as XP in 2017.

Getting most users from 8 to 10 shouldn't be difficult; 7 is more difficult. Nice and stable with extended support runs until 2020. Many people are suggesting that 10 is better than 7. And that's what the 12 months is all about.

    Q1
Yes, it’s free. This is a full version of Windows, not a trial or introductory version. It is available for a limited time: you have one year from the time Windows 10 is available to take advantage of this offer.

Can Win 10 really be any worse than Win 8/8.1 ?
I have spent the last 24 hours reinstalling Win 8.1 on my high spec laptop (over an 80Mbps fibre connection)
To start with - the reason that I had to reinstall Windows was that I had the cheek to physically switch off my laptop - due to a "freeze" - this obviously got the device riled and it refused to restart, normally - giving me the options of a rebuild or refresh - I chose the latter due to having files that I needed !!
So, I was forced to go through the procedure of installing Win 8 followed by a 3.8Gb Win 8.1 update !!
The initial Win 8 refresh took about an hour - followed by a wait, whilst Win 8.1 told me that Win 8 needed to be fully updated first - another hour passed - then I tried Win 8.1 update again - this time it "hung" for no good reason - so I rebooted again and finally got Win 8.1 to start loading - not installing - just loading - about 3 hours later, I went through all of the usual stages of "WE ARE SETTING UP YOUR PC" and "ALMOST THERE" only to get another hang at 82% - so I rebooted again and discovered that Windows needed to start its initial download again - so I left it doing this overnight and this morning, when I tried it - it was sitting there with Win 8 installed ..
Next I had to try again with Win 8.1 which took another 3 hours to install - this time, I left it at 82% installed and this finally got itself fixed after another 2 hours - I am now carrying out a "normal" Windows update on Win 8.1
But as I said - can Win 10 be any worse than Win 8/8.1 ?
The answer is NO - I have spent the last 6 months - running Win 10 as an "INSIDER" at work - and it is not too bad an OS !!
But I still prefer Win 7 or even XP .
