All they've said (apart from one blog post which was hastily edited) was that Insiders would be able to access the latest builds - but those builds have always had an expiry date. They've never as far as I know said those builds would activate permanently or have a licence.0 -
the older versions of the insider ISOs DID have an expiry date , you can check this out with "the toolbox" , however the last 2 copies (latest 2) have no expiry time limits on them
I tried deselecting from being a member , then rebooted and fast forwarded my date past the 180 days (that was the expiry on previous builds) , and nothing happened0 -
Flash drive W10 upgrades available at Amazon. $119.99 for W10 Home and $199.99 for W10 Pro version. For those not entitled to the freebie.
All working fine here after last nights download. It does look like the full retail version and not a continuation of the insider programme. None of the privacy settings are greyed out etc.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

I won't be touching W10 with a barge pole as MS have decided in their idiocy on forced updates. A seriously stupid move that further down the line Microsoft will be compelled to back peddle on.

Most people have auto updates on already. Far better than the old case before XP (SP2 OR 3) when people just didn't bother, or when BLASTER and SASSER were rampant, both fixed by a patch people had not bothered to install.
Could it break systems, yes, but its better than not patching at all once it was installed, which is what used to happened to most systems.
We live in an always on world, keeping up to date is jsut a fact of life, your phone, cable tv/freeview box/ modem and many many other things auto update and no-one cases, why the cuffle over Windows0 -

Erm no actually, I can disable auto updates for everything you mentioned however with W10 non enterprise you cannot disable autoupdates, even Apple isn't that stupid and gives you the option to not install.. This turns W10 into a constant rolling Beta distro with absolutely no possibility of turning it off. Features added or removed at Microsoft's will of which you have no control and updates for your system that may break or brick it which you cannot stop.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
Best stick with XP or go to Linux then.0

It's been said before but I prefer to allow an update to 'do the rounds' for a week or so before committing to it myself. I find this preferable to having to repair or even reinstall after a duff update has been propagated, as has happened with 7 and 8.
Yes, I know that I might leave the door open for some sh1tty little 0-day exploit, but with good AV and a sensible Internet technique that's a chance I'm willing to take.
So far, in donkeys years, it hasn't let me down.0 -
OK , 24 hrs burn in on 10240 , (spare ssd drive) , only problem is a niggly black box with a big red "x" saying your AV is not turned on , click here to config.
umm , default windows defender (that has updated more times than I have brewed coffee) , no other AV installed , checking system , defender is on and running .0 -
The 'Insider Programme' is going to continue. This is where they will test all new updates and features before releasing into the general community. This makes the system and updates one of the most tested there has been.
Any updates finally reaching non insider users should have few if any bugs in them.
Most people objecting to auto updates are not average home users, I would have thought they were the sort to use Pro anyway.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you
