But he's not wrong. No patches, and on Tuesday Microsoft pulled the A/V plug.
I know there are other AV's but its like using a spoon to bail out a boat. It will work reasonable well for a while but sooner or later it will fail. Most people will have used the Microsoft defaults and never changed them.
You only need to look at whats come out of the recent Hacking Team leaks to see there are many, many companies who make a living out of exploiting holes, and they won't report them to vendors as they don't want them to be closed. And if a legal organisation (even if they trade with dubious regimes) can do it so can someone with malicious intents.0 -

It is idiocy to be using XP, I could write an entire thesis on the subject as to why it's so vulnerable. Those who think otherwise are living in a fantasy bubble. There are other alternatives out there, use them.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -

Well you have convinced me but now I have an uphill task to try and get my partner to upgrade. She is by no means an idiot but she prefers the tried and trusted old faithful XP. It would be helpful if you could give one or two particular examples of how her system is vulnerable so I can shock her out of her complacency. She pays for a private VPN and believes that this will protect her.0 -
I wonder why M/soft did not include the option of burning to pendrives
I downloaded en_windows_10_pro_10240_x86_dvd.iso and stuck it on a USB drive that had a bootable version of Windows 7 on it, replacing the old files with the new files and installed it on an Acer Aspire.
Slow as anything, it took over an hour to install and update and takes ages to do anything and I haven't installed any of my programs yet.
All I ever hear is the hard drive making access noises all the time.
And as for fast booting? takes about a minute, my current PC with a SSD boots into Windows 8.1 in 9 seconds.over 73 but not over the hill.0 -

This only applies to xp then not w7,w8, or w10. Dream on.Fightsback wrote: »It is idiocy to be using XP, I could write an entire thesis on the subject as to why it's so vulnerable. Those who think otherwise are living in a fantasy bubble. There are other alternatives out there, use them.
I accept any risks involved in using it but you were out of order labeling every user an idiot.0 -

well you have done something wrong , try burning the iso with WiNToBootic_v2.2.1 or rufus
I think you have mixed the older win 7 bootload with the later win 8/10
mine (i3 4170 /ssd/4g) boots in about 10 secs
NOTE: I only use 64 bit OSs now0 -
