OK Sorted out the upgrade to 1511 build 10586 - by downloading the ISO (Thanks Grumpycrab) - the actual download took less than 10 mins (I have a quick fibre connection) - but the installation took more than 2 hours (the laptop has a dual core processor and 8Mb RAM !!)
When rebooted - I discovered that my Avira antivirus has been disabled in favour of Defender !!
    But now, running OK

Even on a quad core I7 with 32gb of ram and a fast SSD that update took about 40 minutes.

Almost as long as the initial instal.

My Windows 7 Pro desktop has now got the "GET WINDOWS 10" icon on the notification area of the screen
I do not have kb3035583 on it
This implies that MS have changed tactics to get everyone to install Win 10, whether they want it or not
I do not want Win 10 on my desktop
How do I rid my PC of this "virus" ?

Looks like there is a problem with the Fall Update, aka build 10586

Media Creation Tool has reverted to providing the ISO from July launch and no-one is receiving updates via Windows Update. Microsoft PR is all over the place. Epic Fail.

I am so close to reinstalling Windows 7 on my main computer. I'm only leaving 10 on it because I help people out learning to use computers, which inevitably involves Windows 10. The only good thing about 10 is that it replaced 8!
The update screwed up my printer and scanner devices and I had to reinstall their software. Another computer I have is happily running Linux...

I've got the November ISO. Seems OK. Had Defender and Cumulative updates. No (good) reason given for pulling this but must assume there are issues...
