OK, so SichboPVR lost all my TV channels after the update/upgrade/Service Pack - I've had to reconfigure it. I used to use Media Center, but of course our friends at MS dumped that. Seriously tempted to go back to Windows 7, and only that because I really need a Windows platform. Already have Linux on one machine and that's fine.
As my printer and TV receiver are both USB, I'm wondering what else has gone. Oh, scanner software has gone...

    Edit:
Reinstalled the scanner software and now that works. System also now reports 110GB free space, which is what I had before all this, so maybe I'm finally back to a working system again.

I have a Ford OBD reader, its currently installed on Win 7...

There are no Win 10 drivers for it, will I be able to install a virtual machine for Win 7, within Win 10?

Just discovered I lost my printer after the installation. It's an HP Laserjet 1012. HP haven't supported it since Windows 7, but by manually installing it as a Laserjet 1015, it worked. Had to install it again...

HP LaserJet 1320 PCL5 and Canon i560 both still working here.
Both using drivers from Windows Update, admittedly both are on a networked print server. I've not tried them directly connected to the laptop, but can't imagine them not working. :)
    Move along, nothing to see.

Yes, you can, for example using VMware Player.

That's just marketing BS by MS, W10 expires in 2025.

    Expect another Windows.

I assumed that the expiry date was just there so that Microsoft were limiting their future commitment to W10. I can imagine it would be quite unprofitable to be contractually obliged to support the OS no matter what the future holds.

Maybe, as 2025 gets closer, MS will extend the support for W10 or re-negotiate contracts to remove support for deprecated components of the OS or... quite possibly, release Windows 11...

I dunno; I just think that setting an expiry date keeps MS's options open. I'm not sure that it necessarily indicates what they intend to do in future.

I think microshaft are having to change their business model to compete with android, windows 10 I believe collects data and sells 'apps' also note its eggsbox gaming centre isn't actually an eggsbox emulator

    - no company involved at all !

I think there are some settings you can change via the Group Policy Manger that would result in the message about your system administrator restricting settings changes. Presumably software can automate such changes too (with Administrator rights).

I'm not running Windows as the moment, so I can't have a poke about, but maybe this guide has some info that could help you identify what settings have been "locked down" and how you can override them.

D'oh! I was genuinely wondering what an "eggsbox emulator" was as well. It's hard to detect humour when it's not funny. :-/
