Do you think it's an issue with the wifi adapter driver not liking W10?

Almost certainly. Can you wire the laptop(?) to a port on your router so you have LAN then delete the wi-fi driver and it's files. Then let Windows 10 download the driver from it's own database. Not wi-fi, but this sorted some driver issues for me on a Windows 7 Pro upgrade.

It's a tower with a wifi card installed so the principal's the same. Will have a go at this. Thank you!

I`m running build (10240) which is the latest for non insiders but I haven`t had any updates since 16th Aug.
Should I have done.

I did join the insider program and got a confirmation email but when I went to settings-update and security-advanced options, the "get insider builds" is shaded grey.

Have had quite a number of updates installed, the last being 21/08. Not sure how to find the build version though!!

I had that. Try Settings->Privacy->Feedback & diagnostics and set the Diagnostic and Usage to 'enhanced' then Insider option was enabled for me.

Its not as wild as it sounds.
I believe the recent build is scheduled for proper release in October.
However be aware you are taking a higher risk vs standard retail releases.

I can`t understand why my current build (10240) hasn`t been updating.
Last update was 16th Aug.there must have been more since then.

Press the Windows button, type in winver and press Enter. This pops up a new window with Windows version info. I also have build 10240.
