Shut down win 10 it reboots ok.
Close lid and it sleeps and wakes up ok.
Hibernate and it wakes ok.
BUT press restart and it starts to reboot but the screen goes completely black (no mouse cursor is showing) just completely black.
The only way to get out of it is to hit the power button which shuts it down completely and then reboot.
So can Nifty help with this one?0 -

The strange thing about this is reboot = shutdown+poweron. Or does it?
Can you confirm that it goes "black screen" when it starts back up (rather than when its shutting down.)
Laptop make/model? (Guess its a video driver issue.)If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -

I click "restart" and the Dell N5050 laptop shuts down completely and then reboots,I get the Dell logo and the F2,F12 options and then it goes to win10`s four little light blue windows logo with the little white dots spinning just below for about 20 seconds and then just a black screen.
The only way out of this is to press the power button to shut down completely.then press the power button again for a normal start up from scratch.0 -

Quick question. How do you open a folder in Windows 10 please? Double clicking on one just seems to pin it on the taskbar and I can't open it. Sorry for what is probably a simple solution.
Edit: Now its working, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't0 -
Grumpycrab, Thanks for your help.
I`ve downloaded the latest intel hd 3000 graphic driver but it doesn`t support win10 only up to win8.1.
As this "restart" is the only problem I`ve encountered with win10 upgrade, I guess I`ll just have to live with it.
Shutdown, sleep, hibernate all work OK, it`s just restart.
What I have discovered is when I restart and end up with the black screen,if I close the lid for a few seconds, then lift it,it reboots as normal.
I did note Dell says this laptop isn`t compatible with 10 back I`m not rolling back to win7 if the only trouble is "restart".0 -

I had a similar sounding issue with my HP 8440p with one of the 'preview' builds of Windows 10. If I let the machine go to sleep, then after restarting I'd get the rotating circle and the fan would come on as the CPU ran red hot. Long press on the power button to reboot it and it would be OK. Fortunately the 10240 release fixed it.
Have you tried disabling hibernation then deleting the hibernate file in c:\?
YOu could always join the 'Insider' programme and that'll jump you up to build 10525.0
