    I agree - it makes Win 10 more like, well - Win 3.1 !!

That because they give you the option to make your own, in addition to the recovery partition stored on the HDD.
Some people just forget.... you can still do it now. Though it's useful to have the option of a clean install without the bloat, in order to get the best performance.

My wife deleted the partition by accident some years ago and the media that I had created from it - has corrupted !!

Having now had the following infamous message on the wife's PC, and given that Microsoft still haven't provided a proper fix, some time on, I've switched her back to 8.1.

Critical error - Start Menu and Cortana aren't working. We'll try to fix it the next time you sign in.

I'm following suit whilst I still can. I'll wait until Windows 10's more stable - probably in a few months time - before I'll go back to it. Shame - I much prefer it to 8.1.

Another issue I`ve come across is if you set the start, taskbar and action centre to be transparent, it doesn`t work.
    Has anyone found a solution?
  • dunno that one , classic shell used and "dragged" a copy of "arolite" from a 7/8 machine , this gives a outline colour on open boxes inc internet explorer

Well I was going to switch back - except that I'm now told that the files have been deleted (and well within the one month supposedly allowed). I certainly didn't delete them - and the Windows.old folder is still there!

Just a warning to anyone wanting (as I did) to go back to a relatively trouble-free OS - which is more than can be said for Win 10.

The same thing happened to me, win7 was lost and nothing in the win old folder.
Also the option to factory restore on boot up on my Dell was missing too.

What I did was to download win10 ISO onto a memory stick and reinstall win10 from that.
After a few tweaks win10 is stable and up and running and I quite like it.
If you still want the win7 start menu, you can download classic shell.
I had it on but took it off as I`d rather stick with win10 features.

I am assuming that once Win 10 is the only viable OS (after a month is up and Win.old folder is emptied) - that the only way of reinstalling Win 10 is from an already created back up ?
ie) A fresh build will not install ?
