    I agree - it makes Win 10 more like, well - Win 3.1 !!

Windows 3.1 didn't have a start menu at all!

I am assuming that once Win 10 is the only viable OS (after a month is up and Win.old folder is emptied) - that the only way of reinstalling Win 10 is from an already created back up ?
ie) A fresh build will not install ?

You know what they say about "assume"? ;)

As long as you haven't changed any significant hardware, then a clean reinstall should activate OK. No need to reinstall from a backup image.

Argh! I remember installing MS Office from 38 floppy disks! (They were actually 1.4MB, rather than 1.4Mb.)

That was on a laptop though (or rather, a knee-breaker!). The desktops had 5.25" floppy drives. And even they had a greater capacity than my Amstrad's 3" drive with 178KB of storage per side!

    Those disks weren't cheap, either!

I remember the fun of an office install from floppy.

I say fun, what I mean is sitting there with a book (the early Discworld ones were oddly appropriate) listening for the drive to stop going "chkchkchk wrrrrr chk wrrrrr" to swap the disk.

I only threw out my set of disks about 18 months ago as part of a final floppy clear out.

One of the worst games I had was the Discworld one; everything I did got the response "That didn't work!"; it was just rubbish.

Going slightly OT for a moment, they were damned hard.
You didn't need to have lateral thinking down pat so much as almost channel Sherlock Holmes and Heath Robinson.

Putting the octopus in the dunny so that you could swap out the caviare for prunes and get the fishmonger to go to the loo, where you could reach under the door and get the belt so you could gain access to the brotherhood's meeting.

I ended up getting a guide to help at times.

One thing I find strange is the tiny start screen as in Win 8 it was full screen
