My wife has a Toshiba Laptop (a C850-D 107) that, supposedly has enough grunt to run Win 10) - currently (slowly) on Win 7 ..
She uses it purely for web browsing and email (using Windows Mail)
My question is - is it worth her updating to Win 10 ?
The installation of Win 7 appears to be slightly corrupt - it hangs for a good ten minutes when shutting down !
I don't want to risk losing the whole thing - if it fails on Win 10 (no back up of Win 7 and even if we did get a back up now - the installed OS is corrupt)
it has an AMD 1200 (Dual core 1.4Ghz) processor and 4Gb RAM.
As an alternative - I am assuming that any Win 7 premium software will reinstall - as we do have the product key and I have, in the past, used a download from Digital River to reinstall Win 7 premium on an OEM device !!
I am aware that Digital River no longer offers downloads though..
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows7 is no use either - it reports that the key is an OEM one - and as such is not eligible for a re-download !!
Thanks very much MS0 -

Sounds like the machine is poorly, I assume you're backing up all personal files and data as a matter of course.
If it was mine, I'd factory restore Windows 7 should be on the recovery partition, then upgrade to 10 and bring back files from backup.
Did you buy the machine from new, just wondering if the WIndows 7 install is kosher...0 -

Make sure you can install any programs you need, then do the upgrade to Win10.
This might work fine, then you go on with your life.
If it doesn't, make sure Win10 is activated, then do a fresh install of Win10. Reinstall your progams, copy your data back on.
If that doesn't work, reinstall Win7, reinstall programs, restore your data.
Your OEM should be providing downloads of Win7.0 -
Get a copy of win10 from here and download it onto a memory stick and keep it for any future reference.

Apart from emails/addresses and favourites - and a few docs - there is little data to back up
The laptop was bought from PC world almost 4 years ago............0 -
I had a lot of trouble getting win10.
It took two installs but everything is OK now.
The option to roll back to win 7 isn`t available to me,it`s somehow been wiped of the laptop.
I ran a program to find the win 7 key but only the win 10 came up.
It was preinstalled by Dell so no chance of getting a copy even with a valid key.
BUT I`m quite happy with win 10, all new pc`s in the future will have it installed anyway, so best to get used to it.
I can`t say it`s vastly different from 7 anyway.
A few useless things you can turn off such as Cortana and any stuff that`s missing, like a DVD player, you can download from the web.
It`s supposed to be the final OS from MSN
ever.
Eh
`til the next one.0 -
:jBack up your DATA - if you're organised, it's all in the user folder. Make sure you have your Win7 product key, and know which version of Win7 you're running.

Toshiba don't !!!!
That because they give you the option to make your own, in addition to the recovery partition stored on the HDD.
Some people just forget.... you can still do it now. Though it's useful to have the option of a clean install without the bloat, in order to get the best performance.0
