Sorry - CP with Faerie there.
Pyxis - Dragonfly story - not too traumatic but just something that stuck in my head badly. When I was little (about 5 or 6) and on a Family holiday abroad, I was up early one morning ( told you I was always an insomniac!) and went for a wander in the grounds (ok - long story short, I was with my father, who is rich and at one of his summer villas - I no longer have any contact with him)
I was watching a deer drink from the stream as the sun rose ( v.amazing) and then it turned and went back into the forest, being little, I crossed the river and went after it into the forest. I hadn;t gone very far in and came across a huge fallen tree and up from behind that came a HUGE dragonfly. In my mind, as I recall it, it had a wingspan of about 2mts and it was so much bigger than me. It wasn;t particularly aggressive - but I remember turning and running all the way back to the house and I never went into that part of the forest again. I can remember being so scared because I knew that the size of it was not normal. lol I know, but I still back away if ever there is a dragonfly around, probably in the same way other people do for bees and wasps. Nothing particularly bad happened that day that I remember - but for some reason it freaked me out.0 -
faerielight,
Hugs, handshakes or what every is your preferred choice.
You have been through the mill. No wonder you are in the state you are. You have had so much happen to you.
You have a lot to deal with. And at the moment. I think you need to focus on the surgery. It sounds like you have a great GP who is doing there best for you.
Not sure what your next steps are.
But there are always people here to talk to. And we are always happy to listen.

Faerielight, could Mind help you with mental health support for when you're in hospital? Are there volunteers that could come in while you're there?
You may say it doesn't do any good, but I would write a letter again; maybe your GP could back you up in this? If a letter is sent, there is a chance it could be followed up; no letter means there definitely wouldn't be any.
Flybaby....dragonflies are rather like fairies! Would it help to imagine them as fairies? With their shimmery gossamer wings and all.
I have a vague memory of a rather silly scifi film on TV years ago, that had a massive giant dragonfly in it. (Might have been a lost world of the giant insects type film!). Maybe you had seen that on TV, then when the real dragonfly flew up suddenly from the log, in your child's mind's eye it became that huge menacing dragonfly from the film.
Just a thought!(I just lurve spiders!)

Pyx - don't think so - I was already reading Stephen king novels and scary stuff and I wasn't really affected by it. It's just a weird memory I have (or it really was a super sized alien dragonfly thing that looked freaky!!!!!)
Calley - well I am not a going out type social person so I would love to be left alone with a good book for my birthday!!!! (I never get it - people insist I "celebrate" - ugh)
Activities my friends partake in seem to be; ice skating, dog racing track, bingo for a laugh, comedy club nights, jazz club, pub quiz and at this time of year things like beer festivals or farmers markets or special weekend events. All sounds horrid to me - but you might like? ~~ squish~~0 -
and Faerie - ignore my previous comments and go by what Calley and Pyx say, theirs sounds like better advice - manage your surgery first. ~~squish~~
I think what I love about this thread is that when we can't see the wood for the trees, sometimes it can be really useful to have other people look at it and break it down into more manageable chunks for you to think about or do. ~~group squish~~0 -
Hello faerielight,
Your situation sounds very tough, but you also sound exceptionally strong in dealing with it as you are!
I don't understand how one psych can have so much power, it doesn't seem a very good system at all if that is the case.
Wouldn't the mental health social worker be under social work authorities rather than psych authorities. Could that be an avenue to persue? Would MIND have contacts with other mental health professionals who could do a referral for you rather than going through the mean bloke?
Keep posting on here, everyone is very supportive!
What change did you decide to make flybaby? I managed to do a healthy shop, so there isn't too much rubbish food in the house. Hubby decided we were having pizza for tea, but I chose a pizza covered in vegetables so hopefully that will count a little bit. When we took Little Sod to the park I also poddled around the very edge of the field to make it a longer walk.
I do like the idea of making little changes.
Pyxis and Georgie, I also don't mind domesticated animals being trained positively, but the circus that came here had tigers etc. No matter how well they are treated it is totally alien for them to be travelling and performing.
I have wondered about becoming a dog trainer. Little Sod is not exactly a shining example of my skills though! Although, when he first came to live with me he had to be muzzled quite often as he hadnt learnt that he didn't need to fight and threaten for everything he wanted. He didn't trust anyone and his first instinct was to fight. He no longer needs muzzling, except in certain circumstances, and he now really likes people and trusts them. His general obedience leaves a lot to be desired, but that is because he chooses not to behave rather than not knowing how to!!0 -

Katy, I'm really surprised there are tigers. I thought that animals like that had been banned from circuses years ago!

Our local sports centre has had an open day today so we took littlewing along and have tried about 10 different sporting activities.
The athletics and hockey teams want her to join, which is a big compliment.
She was amazing today - tried everything without having to watch it all for half an hour first - she just got stuck in straight away. And no melt downs.
We are really trying to get her to be confident with new things.
So, calley, try something new for your birthday!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0
