Work was silly busy, so I didn't get a break at all. When my boss came in I gave him my note and told him I will not be working a shift like that again. He said I could sit in the cooler room in the back doing odd jobs for my shifts, but he wouldn't get cover in to help the others out, so that is not a practical solution. He then said I needed to decide if I was in the business to work, or just sit around! I told him I would happily work, just not put me or baby at risk, and if he couldn't reduce the risks I wouldn't be working. He said I had to work as he couldn't get cover for me and he couldn't mentally or physically cope with covering my shifts... We have agreed another meeting on Friday to discuss options.
Don't let him guilt trip you with the increased work load on others and refusal to get extra help. That's why maternity (and any other) risk assessments are there - to protect the work force. He gets paid to sort staffing issues out, that's why he's the boss. If he can't do that, then he takes it to his manager to discuss.
Asking you if you're there to work or not is well out of order, and people like him do make me cross. Nothing more than emotional blackmail.
Hi to Whitewing - I was wondering how you were getting on.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Katy - Can only suggest you document the conversation as best you can remember it and sign it as a true account. This conversation is a clear contradiction to the risk assessment you have described. Might be worth talking to CAB/acas/HV with these 2 documents to see if they think you will have a case to claim back lost wages if you stop working as you do not think yourself and escapee are protected.
The others are right - it is his job as the boss to arrange staffing cover and his problem to worry about and he is managing all this very badly. Unfortunately for him, ignorance or lack of knowledge regarding H&S is not a defence.
Recommend you document all your work shifts and conversations with date and time etc and go back as far as you can remember. such records will be useful for any attempt to reclaim lost wages in the future.
So sorry you are not being treated with kindness ((((squish))))0 -
Katy, is there someone over him whom you can go to, or is he the ultimate boss?
Has anyone heard from LostInRates lately?

I find it helps to do the year test.
Imagine it's a year from now..........
Imagine 1) You are in the job you are in now. Fill your mind with scenes of you being at work, doing all the things you usually do, meeting all the people you usually meet, the journeys to/ from work, immerse yourself in thought in the total current work experience. Feel the feelings and the emotions about this job.
Then, switch to
Imagine 2) You are in the proposed job. Fill your mind with what you will be doing in that job, the people you will be with, the journeys you have to make, the emotions and feelings you will have. Immerse yourself in thought in the new job.
Then, still in a year's time in the new job, think back to your old job. Do you feel regret? Do you feel it was a change for the better?
It may give you some answers.(I just lurve spiders!)

In a can't be arsed mood today. Not even up yet!!! I feel a bit needy today.
There is so much to do. like washing up!!! Finishing making the sideboard, And that does not include the decorating and revamping the garden.
Also have a date set up for tomorrow.
I seem to be attracting them from all over. Got another one chatting to me. And when I mentioned about decorating and garden he gave me his mobile number and said he was on holiday next week and would come and help

Hello again. The other week a manager came to the flats we were cleaning and she see two employees sitting on the steps smoking. Luckily I was hoovering all the time she was there and it wasnt until she had gone that I found out who she was. We were suspended but still paid and this week was our last anyway as it was the final week of the six month contract. So I went to see the job coach to claim my fares and she said that I pass the six months in flying colours and should anything come up they will contact me and they already have. A 10 hr per week cleaning position.
Now can anyone help me here. Iam flying from Inverness to London Gatwick with my 9 year old son and 12 year old daughter.
Could someone tell me what ID we need. I have emailed and phoned easy jet but if anyone could help me here I would be truly grateful.
I believe my provisional driving licence is all I need and I only need vouch for my children.
Many Thanks

Talking of gardens, after being too scared to go out into mine, due to there being sooooooo much to do out there, it's been kick-started today.
The main thing that was stopping progression, apart from me feeling so bad for the last 6months, was that a large pile of earth had to be removed and some very large rocks moved to another part of the garden to be a rockery. Once that was gone, I could then deal with that section, and then the next and so on. Couldn't do anything until all that was done. And it was far too much for me to deal with. I had moved a much, much smaller section a while back, and it took weeks and hurt my bad wrist joint.
Anyway, this morning two men came and did that. Cost a lot, but oh well.
I'm hoping I'll regain my gardening enthusiasm now!
I've had a plan to lay a little 2D maze in the middle of the garden. Just a small one one, as my garden is small. With brick pavers, and in between the paths, lawn camomile and creeping thyme etc.
Several years ago, I walked around a 2D maze somewhere, and found it incredibly therapeutic, concentrating on where I was placing my feet, and twisting and turning. Ever since then, I've vowed to have my own.
I think it will be a nice calming start to the day. To go out every morning and walk the maze.
It won't be concentric, 'cos there simply isn't enough room, and it may even have to wind round a small medlar tree that's in a pot, but has been for about three years, waiting for me to do all this, and I suspect the root has grown through the pot into the earth, so I won't be able to move it!! Not without risking killing it!(I just lurve spiders!)
