    Hi all...

Yesterday was a spend day as went to the cinema to see the new 'Jurassic World' film... was amazing. Can't believe how expensive the cinema is these days... I registered online at Cineworld (you get a slight discount) but were still over £11 each.

I agree with Bobarella - Netflix is a great site, with prices ranging from £5.99 to £8.99 at the moment:

    - £5.99 gets you a basic package (1 user + No HD/HD Ultra)
    - £7.49 gets you standard package (2 users, HD, no Ultra HD)
    - £8.99 gets you premium package (4 users, HD/HD Ultra)

All packages have unlimited viewing. It's real good value. Obviously you need internet access and a reasonable download speed for streaming... Go to the website for more details. They don't always have the newest stuff on, and are often a few series behind what's on TV/Sky etc.

    Today = SFD number 8

Lazy day at home planned. *Still* using up my pasta meal I made at weekend... Think I'll make less next time haha! Soooooo fed up of it now! Lol.

I agree abundant. It's been more than 6 years since we've stopped our TV package (we only have the broadband and telephone). We realised we were paying too much for a TV package we don't have time to watch anyways because of our shift patterns. Two years ago we stopped watching TV altogether, we just watched dvd's. Now that we've got freeview, we still get to watch decent amount of programmes for nothing. In December when OH took out a mobile contract, they gave us 6months Netflicks subscription for nought. It has ended last month and we said we will sacrifice a little bit by paying off our credit card balance before we renew our netflick's subscription. It was strange at first not having unlimited access to movies but somehow we found other means of entertainment that are free. It's really a hard long slog paying off debts but it will be worth it in the end.

Hey Abundant - if you sign up for an insurance at Compare the Market (cheapest is about £2), you can get 2 for 1 tickets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I'm also signed up to Yplan for £6 Thursdays at Vue, and Showfilmfirst for occasional free screenings.
... which is why I was so tutty at my OH for going on his tod on a Monday to see Mad Max!

Free pizza at work today has meant be re-jigging my points around a bit, and putting my lunch in the fridge for tomorrow. But sooo delicious!! I had 3 slices, but used my tracker so I know I only had 11 points' worth. A light stir fry and noodle meal is planned for when I'm back from my writing group later, and I'll use some of my weeklies for a glass of vino. :)

    Today, I am grateful for:

    * a clearer head - as I forgot my anti-histamines, but the pollen isn't affecting me so much today.
*a positive outlook - which saved me as I got asked about a potentially controversial subject in a quiet kitchen by someone who likes to do a bit of moaning and griping and drag you into it. If a certain someone was listening round the corner, all they would have heard from me was positivity and praise for my colleagues and team! :D
    *free pizza!! :D:D:D

Yeah different strokes for different folks. I know in certain countries, they eat rice 3 times a day, even at breakfast. Africans eat a lot of corn based food. I think it's dictated by what people do for a living either at present or used to do historically and culturally. Back in the days when majority were farmers doing heavy manual work all day long in the heat of the sun, you would want to have lots of carbohydrates in you to last the day. Cereals could also give you energy and fibre throughout the day and it's quick and easy. Whatever works, isn't it?

Good luck on the baby shower booking. Hopefully they will realise they are getting a good deal. As you said, a food establishment allowing customers to bring their own food and drinks in is a rare find. Just thinking, what would be the difference in the takings if it's a slightly lower booking fee for the venue but they will be tied in with the drinks? They could bring their own food but buy their drinks from you? I have no business head whatsoever so please ignore my question if it's nonsense.

Indeed. It makes me very sad though when I am in Sains first thing in the morning buying salad & things for work, & there are mobs of teens buying junk food to eat as their breakfast. Heartbreaking.

So for the venue question, as I am just a cafe not a licensed venue, I would be letting them use the space whilst closed, as an exclusive hire thing. Usually I charge £100 for that, but I've offered it to them for £75.
They are looking currently at church halls, & commnuity centres with a kitchen, which is pretty much what Im offering as a premises anyway. If they hire one of those its usually £30 an hour for our area. So my 3 hours hire is slightly cheaper.
Some of the pubs will allow a group to take a private room for free, but they'd expect a min spend at the bar. So again I probably work out cheaper. I'll let them have a good look around & come back to me if they want it. No pressure for me yet as its August, & it is very very quiet then due to the school hols. If I get it, it will boost my takings, if I dont I'll have a day off (weekend anyway we arent doing then at the moment) sorry for long reply:p

Thanks Wishus - I normally wouldn't go on a Tuesday, but my friend was up and Wold have gone by today (when I get 2 for 1 with Orange Wednesdays). Good tip about the insurance though.

I know if I didn't have Netflix I'd be tempted out more to watch new films or buy DVDs - as it is there's still quite a few series I haven't seen on there, so definitely getting my money's worth. As you said, The Only Girl , there are heaps of alternatives, and paying off your debts first is a great rule of thumb anytime. I too gave up my TV years ago and never looked back.

Thank you for the quotes Shyspender - always really inspirational!

    Evening all,

Sorry for my absence the last couple of days. I'm hoping things start to settle down now, although I will be manically marking for the next three weeks. I have a bit of a quandary in that I think I have taken on too much marking work. I am pretty sure that I won't be able to make my quota and just the thought of that is making me stressed. Should I give up some of my marking to reduce the stress? or should I continue with the marking and try to learn to accept that I won't make it to 100% and not stress about it?

In MSE news, today was SFD number 10 :) My LTW total is not as high as usual as I have started using the school canteen to have a full meal at lunch rather than cooking for myself at home. I don't do this everyday but whilst I am marking, it is saving me time and costs less than £2 a day.

  • DS1 saved the day! Hubby came from work absolutely shattered and said he couldn't possibly cook the evening dinner. I was in the middle of the ironing and I was determined to finish it tonight so it wouldn't eat time for my long list of things to do tomorrow. Hubby said we'll just get a Chinese take away. I was horrified! Not another take away when we have been doing so well with the NSD Counts! So DS1 volunteered to cook spag Bol. Everything he used were value items from Aldee and my calculations tell me the meal cost less than £3. (He used tuna instead of minced meat as the main ingredient of his sauce). It was rather nice and plenty of left over for tomorrow's packed lunch.

NSD no.12 today! Proud momma here!

Had a lovely relaxing day. No pain, everything feels very loose - maybe a bit too loose as the phone went this morning, DS3 was in the bath and I nearly did a Bambi on the ice trying to walk across the room. Feel slightly guilty as I think I could have got more done (lots of sewing done) but only slightly guilty.

Today I am grateful for books, for good things to watch on the laptop and for calculations coming out right (minimum payment for the card I moved the balance transfers to last month is £1 under what I worked estimated).
My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.
