Thrifty - I have to say for anything mortgages I think a broker is worth their weight in gold. A good broker that is. We've had ours for 10 years & what that woman can't do doesn't need doing! Can you look for some local recommendations for one? Filling things in online for such a massive thing is never going to get you the same service as an expert human being. We've also never had to pay her a penny as she takes her cut from the deal she arranges. So that's good too.

Thanks, yes that's what we'll most likely do. We've got one we used before and does a similar think with getting paid. Just thought go direct because we saw a good deal for what we needed and they said it's all straight forward, right. Also the responsible lending rules have changed so N@ationwide now also want a 3!!! hour interview. I guess mainly about your in and outgoing, but 3 hours???

Felt !!!!py this morning, just the usual, house a tip, kids lovingly annoying, OH's OD, etc. But just went for a 30 min bike run during lunch and feel much better :T

Right going to get focused just been mooching about lately, spending money here and there, to be honest had to spend bits on the house and bottle of wine and ice cream for me. SFD will happen today and get back on track.

Annoyed my saucepans ordered haven't turned up yet, have a nasty feeling about this, order won't track. Send msg to seller through Amazon got standard reply no msgs being accepted. Will give it a few more days and then try and get money back. Paid with credit card. New Seller should have been more on my guard?

Thrifty good luck with mortgage. I was lucky most helpful lady in Santander, who even stayed late so I could get the offer which finished that day completed, wasn't a sales tactic. She was helpful all the time, direct contact not having to go through head office - ace.

Had a lovely day out yesterday, National Trust card used again and daughter managed to borrow one and come along. Took picnic but did buy a couple of ice creams, me and grandson.

Restless because I can't do much this month, money tight. Have agreed to meet old mate in Chester was going to cancel but think I might have a nice day off work and lovely lunch. As everyone else seems to away on holidays and work it just so manic at the moment.

Child free tonight, so plan to cut grass wearing a mask!. Hayfever argh.
Long dog walk, see if anything I can sell to get some extra cash and clean kitchen. Vegetable lasagne out of freezer for tea, use up all the salad stuff with it.

Right back to shuffling paper about.

    Just keep swimming turtles ;-)

Hi everyone!! Sorry I don't think I checked in yesterday. I had a spend free day :) Takes me to 11.

Am debating buying some shopping today as I still have stuff in but have a visitor for dinner and can't really feed them leftover diet food or ham egg and chips :/ I know I should be good :(

I finally got YNAB talking to me. I had a big muck up in mid May where I entered a few receipts from a couple of days. It was when I had some cash in my purse and somehow I forgot to check what was paid from cash and what from my bank. Everytime I tried to sort it out I got distracted by something else or the maths frustrated me as it wasn't working. I finally got an hour when the little lady took herself off to bed and sat reconciling it with my (5) bank accounts, until it matched to the very last penny on everything! So I do have my totals for groceries etc in June, but I need to dig out a receipt from Mr A's click and collect as I think there were child related toiletries and some kids pants on it! and it has all gone into the groceries budget for now.

My fitbit has died. So I am slowly dropping behind the pack of my friends on there now - I don't mind because I know I am keeping up with myself in terms of my own personal goals even if I can't see them but my wrist feels bare where I am used to checking steps constantly! Good news is I reported it to Amazon yesterday and they have dispatched another to replace it, hopefully today! Still today is usually my 21kish steps day so I am gutted to have *lost* it in terms of the app! Yesterday it charged up enough for me to go out walking while the neighbour babysat and I did 9000 steps in one go :rotfl: which caught me up to my 12k personal target so I was happy with that. I know its silly as I did way more than that without the fitbit on, but .. my head is daft ;)

So.. I am off to fetch Jellytot and take her to the park for a bit :)

thrifty that decision in principle application sounds very very odd... As someone who processes mortgages for a living I can state that they need your blooming shoe size half the time to complete a DIP. So whatever that mortgage guy was doing, I don't know. You need to check it didn't touch your credit history before you do it again. As it will decrease your score each time you do one. And get the figures worked out and in your hand down to the last penny ready to do the next one. As people have said, brokers are worth their weight in gold... BUT, and I say this with all due respect to my profession... we aren't that necessary. If it is a simple transaction.. you don't need one as long as your figures add up. Don't spend money (even if you're not actually spending it..) that you don't have to. I've told that to 3 repeat clients in the last week! xx

Hi everyone! We got back in the early hours of this morning from an amazing holiday. The weather was amazing, food was brilliant, did a boat trip and camel ride, visited the spa, kids were kept happy, and it was all within budget (thanks to some haggling that Martin himself would be proud of)!

Back to reality now, unfortunately. Big shop done, washing machine is on and cases are semi-unpacked.

Hope you are all doing well. I'm off to read back on what you have all been up to, but I have a feeling it may take a while! Will also update my signature once I have added up my totals so far.

    Afternoon!

Finally managed a SFD today!!! Now at SFD number 7.

Actually remembered my packed lunch! Made a strange pasta concoction which should do me a few meals... Been a bit lax going out for walks - so am going to force myself tonight.

Nothing else much to report... so will catch you all tomorrow ;)

thrifty- I agree with Bob about getting a broker. Definitely worth avoiding the stress and they usually can find you much better mortgage deals.

academia- £5 for vodka & coke in London?! It's my lucky day if I manage to find one for that much in central!! Can only dream of what the prices must be like up north then... :)

    I'm back folks!

Sorry I've been a.w.o.l. Thursday night was spent waiting for the OH to come home and then we had a catch up. She came over just to give me a hug and make sure I was ok before the funeral Friday. Decided to stay over Friday night so that I could see my Uncle off in style. Definitely did that. Was lovely to catch up with ma and pa and the extended family. Must be fifteen or so years since I last saw them.

The hotel/pub was lovely. Pa paid so it was free. He also wouldn't let me buy any drinks all evening at the funeral, and slipped me some extra money, just because.

Came home Saturday morning after breakfast with the folks and OH and SD were here waiting for me which was lovely. We went out to get out of the house to the local shopping area. I got some house bits (not in my budget, have a seperate one for the house) and I used my £20 treat. SD has a thing for elephants, and found some lovely ones, so I treated her to the one she liked the most.

Then it was dinner out, thanks to pa, and cinema to see the dinosaurs, also courtesy of pa.

Yesterday was a lazy day watching orange is the new black, our favourite show, and then we went to a garden centre for a mooch. I wanted to look at the plants and garden stuffs. If ever my garden gets sorted I may actually be able to buy something!

Was tired by the time they had to leave yesterday so I just collapsed in front of the TV.

Today I have finally potted on my chilli plants into massive pots. Now I need to get some garden canes to help them out. Tiny flower buds on one of them, different kinds.

Just about to introduce YNAB to my credit card. Decided this month groceries and fuel would go on the card to get points that I can cash in at another point. Not quite sure how it works though as it isn't pre-YNAB debt. Lilty I may need your extensive knowledge!

I have read all the posts but don't have the time right now to comment indiidually. It looks like we are all doing well. Keeping the fight going and finding different angles to attack.

Well done Turtles, keep it up!

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
Welsh kitty - Glad you had a lovely holiday. Welcome back.

Calling - Glad you had a nice NT day out. I must try and use my membership again soon. I think I've only done so once since we renewed in April. Used to go a lot but without a car it makes it harder. Still summer hols may give more opportunities to gad about.

Shy Spender - Hope your ok. Your Dad sounds very nice.

Thrifty - yes I've been caught out the same way when you think things may be simple and then it all turns into a crazy fest! A 3 hour interview though wow!

Lilt - I'm glad they are replacing your fitbit without asking too many questions. And rightly so.

I am pleased today because I have landed a 3rd kids birthday booking for July. It's so reassuring to see solid cash flow generating events with deposits paid. Well 2 haven't yet but I spoke to one today so I know it's on the way and the other only just booked today so hopefully this week. I've also thrown my hat in the ring for a baby shower. Fingers crossed.

    Night all

  • Just a quick check in tonight as heading out for my first of two night shifts. Been busy in the garden, sowed some seeds, crossing fingers that they are not too late for the season. Was planning to tackle the ironing but hubby wanted a bit of a day out. Visited an aquatic and garden centre - he bought some plants for his fish tanks and I bought 2 cucumber seedlings. Both of us are pleased with our puchases. Popped into lee del and bee n emm for some bits and pieces to top up our pantry and garden.

Friendly local Indian helped us out with dinner - I can't remember the last time we had an Indian take away and there's still money left in the dining out budget. So not too bad.

Happy to hear about your birthday bookings Bob. I wish you many many more.

Welcome back welshkitty. Good to know you enjoyed your hols.

Sorry to hear about your uncle's funeral shyspender.

    Welcome back Shyspender.

I introduced mine to the same this month, and it immediately made a master category of Pre YNAB debt, and attached a little sub-category with the name of my CC account on it. I deleted it and hid it again ;) I could keep it there, but as I am stoozing it effectively, I created my own sub-category under the *Savings* master category, added in the purchase onto my CC and put it down as the new savings category. Now I have a £619 debt in that category and have deliberately not furnished it with any of my budget yet this month as it isn't due to be paid. So it was skewing everything... i.e July had £490 income already but it was swallowed with this debt. So if you click on the red debt amount in the category you've popped it in, it allows you two options, two different ways to treat that debt. I clicked on 'Subtract from next months category balance' instead of from next months available balance. And hey presto everything clears up.

I am aware that reads like gibberish to anyone not familiar with YNAB. And possibly to those with it :rotfl: - PM me if you have any queries Shy :) xx
