A good day for making progress but spent quite a bit of money. Had an e-mail yesterday from the estate agent about a viewing tomorrow so needed to go tackle the garden. Took all the tools and cleaning materials I needed to do lots of bits.

However garden had changed into a jungle. Was there from before 2pm (had lunch before I went) and got home after 8pm. Had to have little rests between bouts of weeding. Have filled mine and next door's (with permission) green bins with weeds and cuttings and sprayed the paths and gravel.

But had to go back into town (bypassing the house) to buy plants, a toilet brush (thought there was one there) and some sweets fell in the basket (£8.25 Wil co), Two meal deals (£6.58 Bo ot s) and a pound at the charity shop as I finished the book I had taken with me. Couldn't come back home for food and a book because I would not have been able to make myself go back. Plus £4.20 for bus ticket (well worth it).

Cleaned the toilets, removed dead spider from the bath and cleaned the front door/ vestibule (3 doors wide and one deep and dirty because of being on a main road), brought rubbish and a plastic shelving unit back home (will hold my three potato bags when the yard corner is clear) and crawled down the back with the bin.

Pleased with what I did and that I kept going (aching all over, swollen feet and ankles, red scars from my wrists to my armpits - looks like barbed wire but just contact with grass, I really hate that stuff) but still so much more that I didn't get done. Have left a note for saying what I have done/ intend doing before the end of the week and have promised to pay someone (eek eek eek) to do the things I still cannot do (so leg is going to have to improve as don't want to pay for it).

Expecting not to be able to move tomorrow (had to warn DS3 that i might need help getting out of the bath) and no intention of moving from my bed again tonight (have chocolate, books and laptop plus fizzy water and a little diet coke left from meal deal - gave chocolate brownie to DS3).

Today I am grateful for kind neighbours (offering tea, coffee, cordial, assistance), for good books and stairs (used bottom stair to prop my feet up whilst resting).

    Hi everyone!

Bob and Calling glad you are both feeling cheerier today.

Lilt what a horrible neighbour! I hope he gets found out.

It was my last day off work today and it has been better than a SFD. I got my new glasses and didn't have to pay as tax credits have decided to send me an exemption certificate AND I returned a faulty item for a refund. So...I am £5 up at the end of the day! DH spotted a gardener in the street and was going to pay him to cut the grass, but when he said £10 we decided we would rather spend 10 mins doing it ourselves (it is a tiny patch of grass really!).

We have a friend coming for dinner tomorrow and I am currently searching for inspiration to use up some gammon. We only have 2 steaks and need to feed 3 adults and 2 children. If anyone has any ideas please feel free to share!

Blooming heck, Lilt - bad karma to that neighbour! :(

Our water butt fell over tonight - totally freaked out one of our cats and some of the water came back in the house. Huzzah - OH managed to fix it and put it back on the wall. I did some digging and didn't track it. Now I'm back on the bus, I feel I'm not getting the walking exercise that going to the train station provided. Need to be more diligent in leaving the house early enough to walk into town!

A huge chunk of freelance work done tonight. And a SFD! :D

    Grateful for:

    • An abundance of rhubarb - my rhubarb and ginger upside down cake is pretty yummy - and that's a free main ingredient!
    • Kindle on my phone - as I ran out of book to read this lunchtime and needed something for the bus.
    • Tomorrow I get to do some actual socialising at my writing group. Yay!
    Keep reading books!
August grocery challenge budget £150, spent so far £45.95, remaining £104.05.

    Morning all,

Sorry I've been MIA for the past few days. I was knackered from the weekend, had to sort out some personal stuff and my exam marking has started and been way more complicated than last year (plus had yearly performance management at work).

Managed a SFD yesterday and checked my bank account and all the tube travel came out and cost about £13 :) Pretty pleased with that. Planning on having a few more SFDs this week as need to crack on with the marking and at least it fills my evenings and gets me earning extra money.

Hope you've all had a good few days, need to read back through in a bit

  • Just finished my 2 night shifts and I am ready for bed. Going to sleep in the morning ands will try to do some gardening in the afternoon, weather permitting. My LTW last night was changed at the last minute, when my beloved sister in law rang to ask if we wanted some homemade chicken chow mein? Who would say no to that? DS1 had it for breakfast (strange I know but he says it sits in the stomach longer than cereals and I suppose it's better when you're in school all day). Whatever is left will be my lunch later.

Just bidding you all a very good MSE day. Go slay those debts away and earn a precious NSD. Hopefully I can also earn one as not planning on going anywhere today except the land of zzzzzz's. Sleeping beauty here needs her beauty sleep. See you later turtles!

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
Mothernerd -please go steady. It sounds like you did an awful lot yesterday. I hope it won't exhaust you too much.

The only girl - Isn't it funny what we are allowed to eat for meals. Really noodles and chicken is a good breakfast and in Thailand they eat noodle soup don't they. I've never understood the appeal of eating cereal and milk. Bleu. Good luck claiming your NSD.

Fmess -Glad your back. Sounds like you've had a lot on.

Wishus - have a good time at your writers group.

So today. I am going for another NSD. I'm also going to make a small payment off one of the cards.
Recieved an email back from the baby shower person. So that's a sign of interest. But I think they thought the rate high. Once they do the rounds they'll realise I'm actually very reasonable as a lot of venues wouldn't allow them to bring in own food and drink etc.

I am working this Saturday evening for 3 hours at my old work. Helping out at a pop up supper club. So that's £30 cash in hand towards something.

Think that's all my news today.

    Hello,

today should be another SFD, not sure what number I'm really on, 12 I think. Just been for a run and now I'm making my office all smelly with my lunch (a salad with boiled egg, anchovies etc.). Not much else to report.

    Have a nice day

Yeah different strokes for different folks. I know in certain countries, they eat rice 3 times a day, even at breakfast. Africans eat a lot of corn based food. I think it's dictated by what people do for a living either at present or used to do historically and culturally. Back in the days when majority were farmers doing heavy manual work all day long in the heat of the sun, you would want to have lots of carbohydrates in you to last the day. Cereals could also give you energy and fibre throughout the day and it's quick and easy. Whatever works, isn't it?

Good luck on the baby shower booking. Hopefully they will realise they are getting a good deal. As you said, a food establishment allowing customers to bring their own food and drinks in is a rare find. Just thinking, what would be the difference in the takings if it's a slightly lower booking fee for the venue but they will be tied in with the drinks? They could bring their own food but buy their drinks from you? I have no business head whatsoever so please ignore my question if it's nonsense.

    Howdy turtles.

Mothernerd - hope the viewing went well after all your hard work.

Happy got a refund off Amazon for my saucepans that never arrived. Seller had left their platform? Pushed? Well make do for now with 2 tatty ones, beginning to get used to the tefal bits in my mash. Will make this month slightly easier.

No SFD today, salad stuff got and need petrol again after work.

Looking forward to a day off tomorrow, no plans just a whole day for me, be lovely change, seem to have been busy every weekend lately. Excited, if the sun could pop out be lovely.
