Hey Turtles!
Back from London and I'm pooped! I budgeted a tenner initially, but thought I'd spend a bit more if I needed to as I had to cancel other budgeted things... except I didn't! I only spent £9.44, and that included a friend's magazine he was selling.
I didn't go to the book signing as I thought it might be too much of a fuss for getting back, and I was right. The tube station was rammed and claustrophobic as one line closed due to signal failure at museum kicking out time. So I eschewed South Kensington station for a trek to Knightsbridge. I was practically led by my nose past the chic bistros and boulangeries as the aroma of pain au chocolat was everywhere. I did my cake pigeon impression, going "Coo" at a few opulent gateaux in the windows. I made another noise when I saw a beautiful artisanal walnut pain de campagne on sale in one place - £6 for the little one! Then, past the Turkish cafes with their rich coffee, mint and pistachio scents.
I got to see the Royal Albert Hall, and the outside of the V&A. Harrods too, though I'm not so impressed with that.
A nice day out, all in all.
In the meantime, OH went fishing and caught us a pike! It'll be a bit of work with all the bones, but I've heard they're lovely.
Spent a bit on some YS stuff on the way home, £4.58. So, with our free fish, we could have some 5p sprouts... OH isn't too enamoured with the sound of that. But I like sprouts!Keep reading books!

Sounds a lovely day out wishus. Well done for resisting the bakery aromas.
Calling - I read your post as meaning that it was Elton who made the mortar fall off with his singing!
mothernerd - sounds like your tablets produce a rather nice state to be in!
messymare - I like your approach of picking which battles to fight. A healthy approach when there is a big choice!
Hope you are all enjoying the sunshine this weekend - and not suffering too much from hayfever and suchlike. I dug the strimmer out yesterday and the grass looks much better just for doing the edges. Today I hope to defrost the freezer - before dd's next bread consignment arrives to fill it up again.NST March lion #8; NSD ; MFW9/3/23 Whoop Whoop!!!0 -
Hi good morning, all! It promises to be a good day, weatherwise, albeit a bit windy, but not as much as yesterday.
Just a quick check in to report NSD no. 5 yesterday and LTW no. 6. Went to work yesterday (3-11pm shift) so no opportunity to spend. Yippee!
Today is a spend your day though, weekly groceries, petrol, etc. lots household chores and gardening on the cards today, so I might not be online much.
Have a safe trip and a nice holiday, welshkitty."There is Life AFTER DEBT."LBM 2009 Total Debt £49046.24 Debt Free as of 27/08/20150 -

Sorry for my absence yesterday, just got caught up in life. Ex came for 'his' two dogs so my household is nowe, three dogs and the cat. Seems really tranquil and my house feels much bigger now there are less bodies in it.
Yesterday was a spendy day as did the food shopping, bought a present and then went out last night. However I didn't spend a penny whilst out as offered others lifts and they bought me soft drinks in return
Hoping today will be SFD as going to visit family, do some chores and then prep for upcoming exam marking tonight. My dad bought me a gorgeous, ginormous hanging basket yesterdaybut unfortunately I have no hook to hang it on and neither the right tools nor the knowhow to install it
think I'm going to call the local handyman who did a job for me a few years ago. I already have a list of other small jobs that need to doing so hopefully he'll be able to do them all at the same time and fingers crossed it won't cost much.

Hello everyone
fmess must have been hard letting the 2 dogs go, so am glad you are seeing the good side of it. Big big hugs. Everyone is behind you in this tough transition. You're doing what is right for you, you have a roof over your head, your beautiful animals... I think you're going to be just fine. xxx
Calling YAY!! Another ES convert. My friend runs a floatation clinic, and has these huge pods people lie in, where there are actual tonnes of epsom salts dissolved into the water which means you float weightlessly in there. Athletes use them.. everyone does. They often have the Nottinghamshire Cricket Club in there floating away for an hour. The health benefits are amazing. And the more you get into it, the more the benefits compound. Like I said. I started with a few little pots, worked up to a 5kg box, and now buy it in 25kg sacks!! I am blessed by it indeed.
welshkitty have a fantastic holiday!!
SFD #6 for me today. I need bread. So this morning I got up, set my kitchen up, and baked a big loaf.It may have only saved me £0.76, but the smell of fresh bread is floating through the house, and I have salvaged another SFD. I can't eat bread, so this was made entirely for Jellytots lunch. She has however not eaten much of anything today an took herself off to bed about half an hour ago and fell asleep. Not a well bunny at all.
I am taking the chance to catch my YNAB up. I've been avoiding it for weeks while the pile of receipts grows ever higher on my desk. As good a motivator for not spending as anything else.. not adding to the pile
I applied for, and got a 19/16 Halifocks CC yesterday. Cashback of £21 has tracked. Once it has arrived, I will be using a spend day and buying myself a new phone on it. My phone is a real mess after 2.5 years of small child abuse. The speakerphone doesn't work, which hampers FaceTime. The battery needs charging 3 times a day minimum. And it turns off despite a full battery in the slightest bit of cold, or wind. useless by the seaside where I live. And now it keeps catching my hair because the screen is coming out on one side, leaving a nasty catchy bit and light glowing through the side of my phone!
I've got the money in savings, but I thought I would a: stooze the CC cash and continue to earn interest, and b: if I can make £40 a month I will be covering the cost!xxx

Brunch in theonlygirl's household has just finished - French toast with golden syrup. Slightly naughty but very MSE because I used up the loaf of white bread in the fridge that was best before yesterday and the partially opened skimmed milk. I didn't use oil at all, just a very thin layer of butter on each side and voila the family's slightly indulgent all time favourite breakfast. Now off to shine my sink and fly clean the garden before I go out for my weekly shopping, and I will keep an eye out for the Epsom salt, lilt."There is Life AFTER DEBT."LBM 2009 Total Debt £49046.24 Debt Free as of 27/08/20150

Morning everyone. I hope you're all having a great day... Just met a mate in town and had a lovely catch up in the sunshine. I'm really glad he has come back into my life again. Not an SFD, but not a hugely spendy day either...
I recently posted this on my Facebook page... Having been through a bad time myself over the last 6 months... I kind of felt inspired to write again... I hope maybe this will help anyone that may be going through a tough time on here too...
"A phoenix (Greek: φοῖνιξ phoinix) is a long-lived bird that is cyclically regenerated or reborn. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor"
I know of many friends right now who are going through a difficult time in their life... Relationships end, friendships drift apart, a loved one passes away. It can feel like your life is ending and that you don't have it in you to carry on... We smile... put on a brave face - but inside it can feel like you're dying... and maybe on some level we do...
There comes a point... when we are ready... that we decide. We decide to go on - and at this point something magical happens. We find strength - strength we never knew we had... Sometimes we may need our friends and family to lend their support, providing the spark that helps us ignite. At this point we become the phoenix and we rise. We let go of the life we knew - for we know we must... and we emerge from the ashes into a new way of living, stronger for it.
This new life may seem harsh and unfamiliar at first - but it is our gift to now build something new - to carry forward those memories and values which are precious and meaningful, and release those things which no longer serve us.
