Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi

Had an email to say I have been turned down for one of the grants I applied for to fund my masters. All my hopes are now pinned on the one I have not heard back from. If I don't get it I will have to seriously question whether I can justify getting myself into more debt to continue in education. Trying not to overthink or stress about it too much as I won't hear anything until after the holiday.

sorry to hear that Welsh kitty. Is there no other approach such as working and studying to keep the need for debt down? I am sure you have thought of everything possible already.

Bob the other (big) house has been up for sale since November (a week before my op, two days before we moved back here). Don't want to call that the 'old' house as this is my original house and is much older. Made a mistake with the Estate agents and then had to wait out the 20 week exclusive period to get out of the contract without penalties.

Now it's up with a local agent, has had some interest and I've dropped the original price (will be making a loss on the sale but probably not as much as if I had rented larger place for eight years). No ex wanting a cut (I kept this house when we divorced 22 years ago, as I had bought and paid for it by the time I was 25, without any contribution from him).

However £75,000 of the sale price is supposed to go towards buying something myself and my mother agree on, so that she can come and live with me if/when anything happens to her partner. Currently thinking that this is such a bad idea for so many reasons but will deal with that situation later.

Well the fact it is all coming to you must be some comfort. I really hope it sells very soon. Imagine how it will feel to have this not hanging over your life anymore. Yes that would be a complicated move to have your Mum at home. Some people seem to go for 2 properties adjacent so each party has their own space but proximity is a support for the elderly party.

Here’s what I wrote last night asI had issues with the MSE forum as well. You’re not alone Doris17!

I think the universe was telling me I couldn’t post what I was trying to as it was a mite too grizzly. So no grizzling!

Thank you to everyone who left kind comments about my posts. And thanks Shyspender for the suggestion and Apple Muncher for the inspiration - I will try to post 3 things I am grateful for today.

For a start, another SFD was achieved today. And I got a good-sized chunk of freelance work done tonight, with OH keeping the tea coming. Just had a fresh, hot cup delivered now! :)

Tonight I had to rethink dinner plans as OH was busy sorting fishing gear round his brother’s, so I got to make myself a lovely Chinese Quorn dish with noodles, a huge load of veg and even some naughty prawn crackers - all pointed for Weight Watchers, so not so naughty really. So I ate while watching Mary Berry on catch-up - inspiration for another time. I watched the one where she went foraging for prawns in Kent.

But to pick three good things today, I choose:
l Books - I love reading so much, and I’m really enjoying the book I’m reading now.
l Spotify - for helping me discover new old music and new new music.
l A freezer - for having given me options for tea tonight!
    Keep reading books!

wishus so glad it just wasn't me.:) Well done on getting your work done, your dinner sounded lovely. :)

Today will be a spend day as I need petrol and a few bits and pieces to see us through until Saturday when I do a small shop.

The rain has stop and the wind dropped here this morning, hopefully we will have a dry day. Now the problem what to wear, winter or summer clothes. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Off to Cardiff this morning, training with work, it's always fun looking for a free parking space as I refuse to pay the car park prices.

    Have a good day all.

    Gooood morning!

It's a gloriously sunny day here so I'm sending some of my positive vibes and some rays of sunshine to all that have a tough time just now.

It's great to be back in the fold and read and share all the ups and downs.

Our trusted car is dying, has been for the last 8 months or so. So a new one is in order. Well not new but a second hand deal that is newish (maybe 6 years) and has low mileage. We also need to renew our mortgage deal in July and thought we combine the two. We'll add 10k to the mortgage (I know, but better than car finance) while only paying £40 more a month than now (which is only 8600 over 18 years) AND taking a year off the repayments. The repayment years will be further reduced once DS i in school and we can overpay. Sounds the most sensible option to me. Although need to find out what fees etc would be added to that.

Today won't be an SFD as I need milk.

    Have a nice day.

  • Well it has taken me 2 days to get my laptop to actually work! Fixed it myself though so at least it was free apart from all the swearing and threatening to throw it out of windows etc.

I have had an SFD on Monday, shopping day Tuesday and plan an SFD today. When I go out I am leaving any and all cash and cards at home.

Thursday is a spendy day, but Friday is planned for an SFD, Saturday would be too but I am going to pay the rental on my new allotment so YAY for getting the plot but also BOO for missing an SFD for one small payment!

Congratulations on your new allotment plot! I have put in an application for one but who knows when I will actually get a plot. How long did you stay on the waiting list before you got one? Can you not pay on Friday so you won't lose one NSD? Or have Friday as NSD and go shopping on Saturday and pay the allotment. Sorry just being nosey.

  • Enjoying my 3rd LTW at the moment. Just finished the first half of the Manual Handling session of my induction programme for my new job. I half expected to be bored to death by it, but surprisingly I enjoyed it and it must have showed because the lecturer said she would like to have me on their team. She's probably just being nice, but it's a nice compliment just the same. I am not expecting a spend today as I have replenished our stocks yesterday so hopefully it would be NSD no. 2. I will declare it when the day is over.

Hope you are enjoying the glorious sunshine. It look like the wind has decided to leave us. I can't enjoy the sun though coz we are stuck indoors and we have e second half of the Manual Handling to do.

It definitely wasn't just you. I keep getting the "Your request has timed out" message when I press Submit Reply. But what I find works is clicking the BACK button and submitting it again. Or the FORWARD button.
