I've never known anyone to say they're engaged without a ring on their finger/ their fiances.
 I've been engaged 4 times - one of the times I didn't have a ring.0

 4 times?! Good going.0

Is is, but I doubt the "ring on the finger" bit was meant to be taken literally.0

Oh yes it does. It has to cost at least three months salary otherwise it's a worthless gesture. Just ask De Beers, they'll tell you.0

50% success rate, if you count the wedding as success.:)0

I have one because my husband bought it without me knowing (you know, the whole surprise proposal thing), I've hardly worn it, and now it doesn't fit. So that's why I'm disagreeing, as I wasn't particularly bothered if I didn't get one.
A friend of mine who's been married for over 15 years didn't get one, infact I know quite a few people who never bothered, and preferred instead to exchange gifts. Horses for courses really, and whatever suits he individual couple don't you think?0

It obviously was when you read her other replies. You've got to have a ring to show off don't you know! 0 0

 No, it wasn't.
But then you made out that having an engagement ring is strange, when obviously it's not. It is definitely out of the ordinary not to have one.
Not really, can't say I care about anyone else's jewellery.0

No I didn't!! Where did I say it was strange? :rotfl: I actually agreed that yes, most people do have them! I'd actually say it was the norm to have one. I just said that you don't need one.
If you want a ring, have a ring, if you don't, then don't, simples!
Anyhow, we're going round in circles, I'm starting to feel dizzy! 0 0

My wife found wearing hers very practical but, I agree, you don't need one.0
