  • Ive received two cheques today from different building societies.

Also received a further cheque from a utility company this week.

In all three cases I would have preferred to have been paid electronically.

The days of the cheque being numbered, I suggest, are a little further away then people might like.

I think I read somewhere that cheques would not be replaced until banks could replaced them with something else that was "paper-based" - not sure how that is done as that just sounds like a cheque to me.

Cheques are fine, it's just the clearance time that is the issue.

Anyway, I don't want to derail the thread into a discussion about cheques. This thread is to draw attention to Peter of England and his 'Were Bank' con.
  • I have never bothered with things like MSE but after reading the post by newscambank a few things have sprung to mind.

I notice a pattern in the flavour of mails and messages from people like this all the time and they have always, always, the flavour of total arrogance to the possible fact that maybe there are things about banking and finance that the creator of the post does not understand.

They seem to be expert in convincing other like minded or should i say closed minded people that the subject matter is either lies or deception or just a complete scam.

I am reading things like " we need a robust legal system to shut him down " and " who does he think he is " and " were bank is not real "

The sad fact of this site is the ( NONE ) of you have any clue about so called real banking and none of you have any clue about banking law ! you are all making sweeping assumptions on subjects that you really think you understand and you simply do not !

its actually hilarious.... especially when none or probably none of you are even aware that the so called UK has been bankrupt for about 85 years !! and all banks use fiat currency !!

It would appear that you ( lot ) dont even read what is on the very so called money that you work hard for on a daily hourly basis ! go on then read what it says on your money document that is in your pocket, it says that is is a " promise " to pay !!!! read it.

So have any of you dummys have any idea what that means ? it means that you have not been paid yet !

The best part is that all those or most of you actually think that the banks are genuinely " here to help you " and " working harder for you " and all that claptrap actually took you in and you think that peter of england is the con man !!!!

There are people asking questions about these subjects on here who would not even understand the answer as they have no knowledge of the foundation subject matter and facts so why not do some research and find out about your own wonderful bank and then see who the real con artists are !

OPEN YOUR EYES this site is called money saving expert and it focuses on saving money and ....guess what ...banking !!! because banks are robbers !!!!!

I bet that many of you on here have a mortgage and one of the benefits of this site is that you may find a better " mortgage deal " ?

The mortgage is about the biggest scam the world has ever seen and you dont even know it , and money is a complete scam also as there is no real money anymore !

You doomsday mongers and nay sayers amaze me with your intelligence, you are like the little birds eating crumbs on top of the frozen lake, you think you are on dry land because you are standing yet the ice is melting beneath you ! wake up and do some studying about banking and law before you comment.

Or....carry on working your little bums off and exchanging your energy/labour for worthless fiat currency and magically created " credit " and stop moaning about trying to make ends meet and trying to squeeze a 1% reduction on your fraudulent mortgage rate and keep begging and offering your bosses big cheezy grins in the hope for a better " hourly rate " of pay.

You have all been " conned " by banks your entire life and you dont even know it, you accept banks as something that is real and bonafide, have you ever had a look in their bank vaults or have you ever been very very wealthy and tried to make a large cash withdrawal or transfer your million to another foreign bank ? i bet not.

Banking nowadays is simply a " system " based on agreements and value is a matter of opinion, the digits written on checks and the ones you see in your account are just what they look like, mere digits with no real value, how do you feel when you are struggling with debt and you owe that bank money ? How do you feel when you now know that the so called money you borrowed was simpy created by the bank on a computer our of nothing yet you must pay it back with everything ?

Our so called governments are constantly crying about cuts and more cuts and give us more taxation money yet they magically find 21 BILLION .....to bail out a private bank called northern rock ????

Seriously you guys please wake up and get some research done, all you are doing is showing you obvious lack of knowledge and understanding of what " money " REALLY is.

    Have a nice day.

PETER OF ENGLAND, I did not know you had an account on MSE, who do you think you are trying to fool.

The game is up and you know it.

We will see who ends up in trouble with worthless monies. You can spout your ideas as long as you like.

People are always going to commit fraud, and cheques are still too widely used by business and some people to withdraw them.

There are still times when a cheque is the best method. I am not going to lose my chequebook just because some stupid people decided to try and trick the system. We are going to get some sort of digital "cheque" in the future, so they will die but not yet.

If you have bank details, what are the circumstances where a cheque is still better? Surely for the recepient, they would prefer bank transfer as they do not have wait 3 days for the money to formally clear .

Unless a baliff approaches you in a desert or a remote place with no reception for Internet banking, demanding money for a debt. Then you should carry a cheque book at all times.

I was only joking in the last paragraph :A

There are loads of situations where a cheque is just fine, and arguably better. The clearing time is not usually a problem either - unless you need instant payment (which is often completely unnecessary).

And why dismiss cheques? They don't need a computer or smartphone (a huge advantage in all sorts of situations). They are easily understood. They don't require knowledge of a recipient's bank account. What's the problem? They work just fine.

I'm not saying bank transfer isn't good (I use online transfer for almost everything). But for many business transactions and indeed many personal transactions, cheques are still perfectly fit for purpose.

But all this cheque chat is way off topic. This thread is about the completely bonkers Were so-called 'Bank'.

Yes, those nasty banks lending people large sums of money (or even "money" if you prefer) to enable them to purchase real physical assets they otherwise wouldn't have been able to, scams don't come much more devious than that....
    its actually hilarious
You're not wrong there, thanks for the entertainment!

Anyone else thinking that the manufacturers of Bacofoil might be a decent investment opportunity?

Old Peter has been doing the rounds on social media today, and has released a new video claiming to show various letters with cleared cheques attached.

Shame you can't read them to confirm.

He's going to launch (or has launched) a new brand - Re-Movement, for the bargain price of £10 a month subscription. I wonder whether the membership fee can be paid by Were Bank cheques?

No he doesn't say they are "cleared", the banks send the cheques to him "for clearing", i.e. for him to clear. What he is saying is that this proves the banks accept Were Bank as real despite his made-up sort code. The "cheques" are only cleared if he credits the relevant amount into the relevant bank in each case.
