Thanks, ESA is classed as contribution based as she is in the support group.

Being in the Support Group has no bearing on whether it is Income based ESA or Contribution based. Both are equally possible.

I have actually been to America 8 times in as many years. I have also had numerous other holidays abroad.
Going to America again will not be out of line with my normal spending.

That's it this is definitely a wind up!

    Yes I am claiming now.
Once I get the money I wont be claiming as I will have too much capital.
I will be paying my way for everything.

You have the luxury of getting a better job so you can afford nice things.
I HAD a well paid job but my wife's health came first and I had no option but to become her carer.

Oh right the disability card is used.

Come on, people every day are full time carers AND have a full time job!

Take me, I have a disabled wife, I am disabled too, I had a good job which I did for a continuous period of over 44 years - the last 7 of them saw me ill and disabled. Even now at 66 I'm bored stiff doing nothing, so I hold three senior charitable/public posts. I am the chairman of a charity, a school governor and a town Councillor.

So playing the disability card doesn't wash with me.

Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

Its not a wind up at all.
Check my post history. I have been to Vegas many times.
If you budget and save its possible.

I didn't ask how to hide the money nor have I asked for advice on how to spend it all.
I realise when im over the limit benefits stop.

It was a simple enough OP.

My parent's would be horrified to think that the money they have worked so hard for all their adult years so that I could inherit would stop me receiving any state benefits that I needed to claim. They paid into the system so I would not need to.

    .

Your inheritance couldn't stop you claiming benefits you "needed to claim" because you wouldn't need to claim. "Wanted to claim" maybe...

As far as my holidays are concerned we have them as Mrs Baza don't get out much and as we hardly go out we can save for a nice holiday.
We don't go out fro meals, cinema, theatre or anything like that. Nor do we have expensive phones and a fancy sky package

So all you need to do now is giving up the nice holidays in America and buy the car with these savings. With a nice new car, you will be to take her out in the UK for much cheaper. Sorted!

I beg your pardon! Nowhere in any of my posts have I said that it is OK to receive the SRP of £200 per week on top of my other pensions. In fact I have made it quite clear many times that I believe that the SRP should be means tested!

I am drawing it because the government have told me that I am entitled to it.

The OP in this thread doesn't seem to grasp that they don't think that it is wrong to spend £15000 on a new car out of an inheritance AND continue to receive means tested benefits.

A subtle difference I think in comparison?
And yes I am in favour of ALL welfare benefits being means tested AND that they should be taxed as well. To finish off seeing you have chosen to ignore my previous posts, I also don't agree with the pensioner extras, they too should be means tested!

    Does this ring a bell?

I have two work based pensions and four private pensions that are all in payment. On top of that I receive the state pension of just under £200 a week and my wife gets nearly £70 a week and has never worked!
Do I really need the SRP? No, but like everyone else I am entitled to it!
