new car and deprivation of capital

Why would you think this thread is a windup?
As far as my holidays are concerned we have them as Mrs Baza don't get out much and as we hardly go out we can save for a nice holiday.
We don't go out fro meals, cinema, theatre or anything like that. Nor do we have expensive phones and a fancy sky package.
Im not trying to defraud anyone or hide the money its just a question I had.
I could be self supported by this money for some time, I just don't want to buy a car and 5 years down the line when I might need help again its counted as though I still have money.
This scenario is no different to someone working and buying a new car and then needing benefits a year or 2 later0 -

This scenario is different you are claiming NOW!
And as for not going out etc. Most working people can't afford them things aswell.0 -
Yet you think it's fine to claim approx £200 per week, which you don't need, in state pension when you have '6' private pensions paying you a monthly payment.
Totally fine as the basic state pension is CONTRIBUTION BASED
If Billywilly or any other pensioner gets over £200 a week (like my Husband) it means they have worked for well over the 30 years NIC qualification0 -

Yes I am claiming now.
Once I get the money I wont be claiming as I will have too much capital.
I will be paying my way for everything.
You have the luxury of getting a better job so you can afford nice things.
I HAD a well paid job but my wife's health came first and I had no option but to become her carer.0 -
My parent's would be horrified to think that the money they have worked so hard for all their adult years so that I could inherit would stop me receiving any state benefits that I needed to claim. They paid into the system so I would not need to.
To inherit is not a god given right, family members would leave somebody money to ensure they had an easier life and possibly not work as hard as they themselves did.
Personally I would rather my parents spend it, but no, they want to leave it to me and my children.
By the way, I work and support two children, claim WTC and CTC, CB and my son recieves DLA.
My point was that billywillynilly has posted that he does not need his state pension, but claims it because he is entitled to claim it, as is the OP.0 -

Sorry but there is a difference the OP is claiming a benefit that there is only an implied entitlement to if certain criteria is met, if circumstances change and the reason for the benefit no longer exist then there is no entitlement to that benefit, if the reason for the benefits still exists but circumstances change like going over the income/capital threshold then the entitlement may still exist but the amount can be reduced, if those benefits are contribution based, then the contributions the person has paid is the criteria
For the state pension there are only 2 criteria one is DOB which gives a person the entitlement to claim, the other is NIC years which gives a person an entitlement to a set amount.0 -

I beg your pardon! Nowhere in any of my posts have I said that it is OK to receive the SRP of £200 per week on top of my other pensions. In fact I have made it quite clear many times that I believe that the SRP should be means tested!
I am drawing it because the government have told me that I am entitled to it.
The OP in this thread doesn't seem to grasp that they don't think that it is wrong to spend £15000 on a new car out of an inheritance AND continue to receive means tested benefits.
A subtle difference I think in comparison?
And yes I am in favour of ALL welfare benefits being means tested AND that they should be taxed as well. To finish off seeing you have chosen to ignore my previous posts, I also don't agree with the pensioner extras, they too should be means tested!0 -
The inheritance tax on the estate will put 10s of thousands back in the Govts pockets.
I never said that buying a car for 15k would enable me to claim benefits either.
Even after a 15K car and a trip to USA I will still be way over the limit.
So why ask the question? Your Income based claim must be closed down when the money hits your bank account.
If you will still be over the limit, you will have to show where and why you spent the inheritance if you have to claim benefits at some time in the future.0
