new car and deprivation of capital

Currently have an old 13yo car that needs replacing.
Im expecting an inheritance soon and want to change the car.
Would buying a car for 15k be seen as deprivation of capital?
Is there any sort of list of things your allowed to buy?
Thanks.

Hopefully, yes.0

If you are dependant on means tested benefits a £15,000 car would appear very extravagant.0

true but I will have to spend money every year on repairs etc.
My hope was to get a hybrid car and save money on running expenses
You only drive 200 miles a month. Your savings would be negligible, and outweighed by the initial outlay.
Take some advice from someone with a little more experience of cars - you're going to need it to get this past a Decision Maker!

There is no official list.
There are some rough suggestions, but it in the end is down to each decisionmaker.
Some will see a new car as a reasonable thing.
Some see Tesco Finest as extravagance.
On a more general point, you need to be doing a _lot_ of miles for a hybrid to save you money, if at all, over a small efficient car.
The decision made can be appealed - but at the end of the day, to be defensible, the decision only needs to be one that is not clearly wrong.0 -
Had badly do you need a car, 15k is a lot of money that you might just need later on. New cars break down also.0

Why extravagant? A new car will last me years, long after the money is gone.
we currently receive DLA HRC LRM ESA (support group) and carers allowance plus HB.
You are living on money that is taken by the government from people that work hard AND you think it right that instead of using a windfall to reduce that dependency you want to spend £15,000 on a new shiny car AND continue to expect to carry on dibbing into the Welfare pot to live on?
Shame.0 -

Shame.
