PPI Reclaiming successes and failures

I helped my son get the following amounts back for mis-sold PPI on six loans he took out between 2002-2008. In November, 2008 I used your template letters to reclaim the PPI added to his loans and, within a couple of months, Yorkshire Bank paid almost £500 back on one loan.
However, they refused to refund the PPI on the other five loans as they said the PPI had not been mis-sold. I helped him with the forms to the FOS and about 2 months ago he heard from them that they had upheld all his claims. They told him that Yorkshire Bank would work out how much he was owed and get in touch with him. He has just received a cheque for £5271.35 made up as follows:
Loan 1 - £ 340.73
Loan 2 - £ 605.44
Loan 3 - £ 27.59
Loan 4 - £ 523.98
Loan 5 - £3773.61
Thanks Martin. We would not have known about this without your site and your advice and template letters were invaluable.0 -

Hi Great thread & site that I have stumbled across recentley in my quest to sort out my finnaces once and for all.
I didnt even know this stuff went on!
How far can you go back claiming for ppi & loans?
My first loan was for a car back in 1984 cant remeber if I had ppi on that but I am going to check the paper work out.
I have had numerous loans / mortgages & credit cards since then many of which were sold with ppi - the latest being a secured loan with Northern rock taken out a few years ago where I was definatley advised to take the ppi if i wanted tohe loan to go through.
This site has opened my eyes to all kinds of stuff - thanks to everyone involved & keep up the good work.
Kind regards to all,
Matt0 -

Hi Matt
You can make a reclaim for being mis sold on loan ppi/credit card ppi, store card ppi, catalogue ppi and so on, also car finance ppi.
And it makes no difference if the accounts are settled or active.
If you have the paperwork that does help, and lots have been successful with reclaiming from even the 80's and 90's etc, although they may be more difficult to deal with than more recent ones it can still be done.
So for the reasons you have give it a go anyway.
Follow the guidelines of reclaiming here:
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance
There is a checklist of mis selling reasons.
And further down the page on link posted above is the reclaiming FOS questionnaire as Stage one, these were recently issued by the Financial ombudsman service (FOS) and you can use these forms instead of writing reclaiming letters, although if you want to - you can write a cover letter as well if you want to - best in your own words if you can.
You complete and save copies in case you need to refer to them later on.
They have 8 weeks in full to respond.
And post by recorded delivery, for your proof of posting.
You actually send to whom is responsible for setting up and selling you the policy, so if a broker was used you write to them.
If you do require further paperwork, such as an agreement for example, for this you just write a simple letter, enclose £1 cheque or postal order, and request they send you a copy of your agreement by 12 days.
For even more documentation on your accounts, you could request a Subject Access Request in short known as a SAR, they have 40 calendar days to comply, but you enclose a payment of £10 cheque or postal order for this request.
There is a SAR template for this request.

Hope this info helps.
Ask for further help if required and good luck.;)

Hi Guys
I ahve read some great success stories here and some equally great advice form members to other members! here I come with a scenario on bahalf of my brother.
took out a loan with TSB of some amount 2-3 years ago plus PPI. over the past year or so he has had very little coming in(self employed not making much) thereforenot beinf able to pay mortgage and bills. every month overdraft used. loan payment not paid either in many mnths but when he contacted the bnk for help he got none.he know has overdraft of about £1500 and also some non-agreed overdraft.
has just paid back the loan by borowing from friend. as that borrowing will b interest free.
is he entitled to anything???is there any ground for claim?when he has been in financial distress for so long and cant pay mortgage bills etc how can a loan payment+PPI be possible to make?
any advice will b welcome.Thank you0 -

Hi there
I would check the lloyds policy booklet details for self employment as some polices will cover for this and other will not, but there are many reasons for being mis sold, I would therefore check the loan insurance link below for more info, and follow the guidelines to reclaiming the PPI if your brother has a case.
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance
The above link there is a questionnaire issued by the FOS, complete, save a copy and send to Lloyds TSB here:
Lloyds PPI
Customer Care
Lloyds TSB Insurance
Tredegar Park
Newport
South Wales
NP10 8SB
They have 8 weeks in full to respond with a decision.
The FOS questionnaire is found on above link further down the page as Stage one.
The policy details may also be shown on lloyds tsb website perhaps.;)
Hope this helps.
Good luck.:)The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
I forgot to add as well, if your brother is in hardship, there is a great thread on here called debtfreewannabe, and many are in the same situation, it maybe worthwhile also checking on there for help in regards of hardship and post up for some help too.;)

Yes I was reading the debt free forum today before I saw the PPI claims one.was thinking of asking him to read and post.may be if he sees how otehrs are in similar postions but fighting for success.. that would lift his moods a bit.
At the moment he has no motivation whatsoever and mayb no belief that thngs will change. It will b very hard to get him on the trak!!
off to sleep now as gotta go wrk tomorw and will look at your given info in detail tommorrow! Thanks a lot0 -
