In 2006 I took out a loan for £8,000 with Northern Rock online and ticked the no insurance box. When the paperwork came through I noticed that loanprotect Gold had been added to the policy at a cost of £1,800. Because I was already a month into the loan they told me PPI ADVICE PLEASE
I had to take out a new loan to pay the existing loan off, to get rid of the Gold protect insurance. It is only recently that I have fully studied the new policy that I have noticed again that Bronze loanprotect insurance has been added to this policy. At no time did I ever agree to any form of payment protection insurance. The second loan has cost me £9,800 which I assume was to pay off the Gold insurance policy that I never needed or asked for. Can anyone tell me if I stand any chance of reclaiming my money back?
    Many, many thanks,
    Mark.

I am in a similar position to you but x2 debt wise - all unsecured.
I too have wrestled with it for many years(10+) and have just this week run out of money to service them and have contacted CCCS re best way forward - bankruptcy/IVA etc.
I need to read up further / get more advice on this and if it applies to my accounts.
Most are credit cards approx half have PPI ,one is a secured loan via northern rock which has ppi.
I also have had other loans in the past which have been paid off which hadd ppi.
Your post gives me renewed hope.

    Thanks

    Matt

Hi there and welcome, yes you have a valid claim, this happened to me and i won.
Put your claim in for both loans at the same time, just put the reasons you have stated here and let us know what reply you get and we will take it from there.

Hi there new to this & looking for some advice ,made a complaint about ppi through one of these easy claim companies as i didnt know much about it myself anyway just had letter from them after going to the FOS my complaint has not been upheld. The adjudicators notes state that when i took out my credit card via a postal application in 2001 i had ticked the relevant box indicating i wanted to take out PPI & the costs where outlined on the documents so i was provided with sufficient info to make informed decision. As i have had this card for a number of years & used it extensively the money i have paid would be quite a large sum, would there be any point in me continueing with my case? any advice would be most welcome
Hi there, my advice would be, do as di says, tell the company to get lost:p and do this on your own, some have won on here with internet applications so give it a go.Have you to pay a fee to the claim co? these prey on vulnerable people and you will end up with a lot less cash from your win, they can only do what you can do for the price of a stamp.

Many thanks for your reply. I have downloaded and completed the templates letters and am ready to send tem off. Just one piece of advice please if I may. Should I email the letters to Northern Rock, send them recorded delivery or do both?

    Thanks

Hi mark, i would just email them first, you should get a reply and you will also have proof that you sent them.If you have had no reply in 48hours, i would email them again. Give this a go and then we will take it from there, i had a reply by letter as well as email from them so no worries there.

Hi thanks didnt request info myself so will be doing that,i take it i have to ask the company in question (nationwide)for the documentation? Only thing is i have only 21 days for appeal.I will be taking it further would be stupid not to i will use the advice you have given me & hopefully get a decent outcome will keep you posted on any news good or bad thanks again

    Hi there

I see what you mean with only 21 days to deal with this, please remind me to save looking back on the other posts, was the 21 days given by the company or the FOS, the FOS does sometimes consider giving more time, so you can gather further information, explain you are requesting your account information from the business, but if its the claim company, you can still continue to have this reviewed by giving them any further information that you may have to give, for example if in your case you assumed you had to take out the PPI as you thought it was all part of being accepted, and if cancelled you thought you had to repay the full balance.

Tell them you do not understand how these policies work and you feel it was rather too complexed to understand.

Just another thought though, if the FOS were given the copy of the agreement, then the company must have sent them these details, so you could as a much quicker method write a quick letter to who set the policy up for you, enclose the payment of £1 cheque or postal order, request they supply a copy of your signed agreement by 12 days.

Then if they come back to you and say they do not have this, then ask how the FOS has these details then.;)

Good one, because when banks request for extra time to gather information, I personally think it should be the same for us, so yes do request for this and tell them you are requesting for documentation from the loan company.
Good luck, please let us know when you hear, cheers.;)
