    OK heres our story.

My darling husband - being a bit of a fool with the spondolicks got himself into a bit of a jam - to say the least!!!

He owed in the region of £86,000 to various financial establishments via credit cards and loans - with NR being the biggest lender.

He borrowed £25,000 from them about 3yrs ago - by the time I found out what he'd been up to, the original £25,000 had increased with PPI, front loaded interest and arrears to £48,000!!

We live in Scotland and ended up seeing a council welfare rights officer who offered us amongst other options a DAS, which OH signed up for (thank the lord - great scheme).

However - this £48,000 grated on me and I decided to try claiming back the £12,000 PPI.

I wrote a letter stating I felt the PPI had been mis-sold as they had led my husband to believe unless he took the PPI he would be refused the loan, I got DH to sign the letter and posted it off recorded delivery (7.6.10).

Initially they wrote back to say they need the time to investigate the complaint and would be back in touch in due course.

On 21 June we got a letter back saying they agreed with me that the PPI had been missold and that they would pay the £3,429.84 worth of premiums already paid to the loan arrears and they would return interest at 8% on the paid premiums (£655.87) to DH.

They will arrange a new credit agreement of £23,100.00 to be drawn up reflecting the removal of PPI - which has wiped £20,000 off what DH owes them.

You can see how NR got themselves intae trouble can't you?

DH still has lots of debts to deal with - but he's chipping away at it, and with my PPI reclaim campaign going on in the back ground we'll get there eventually.
Don't try to keep up with the Joneses - Drag them down to your level - it's cheaper . :p:D

  • More success!!

As previously reported Egg paid refunded PPI of almost £3,000 on a recently settled loan after nine working days.

I sent a similar email regarding my Credit Card account and within six working days they have offered almost £3k as a 'gesture of goodwill'. They didn't agree with my points but have offered the refund +8% anyway. It brings my balance down by half.

I contacted MINT/RBS and MBNA/VIRGIN over a week ago too and am awaiting their response but I expect MBNA in particular to not be very forthcoming. Fingers crossed though.

Once again thank you som much to everybody on this forum.

I wrote to Northern Rock in March 2008 about PPI but they replied back saying they did not agree I had been misold. I left it at this but today out of the blue I received a letter saying they had looked at it again and agreed I had been misold, payment of £606 being sent to me and monthly amount reduced by £9 for next 33months.
All just in time for holidays.
