What were you reclaiming: Loan PPI
    Who was the provider: Barclays
How much did you get back: £1425.91
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: I wrote a letter to Barclays but they were taking so long, so I got the FOS involved.

    My tale
Hello, thought that as I've had success in a PPI reclaim against Barclays Bank I'd put the details on this thread.

I first realised that I had PPI on my loan towards the end of last year. After reading the articles on here, I used the template letter to request that they pay back the PPI and gave them 8 weeks to respond.

They wrote back within a few weeks saying that they would investigate and get back to me. Then every month from December 2009 they wrote again saying that they has not completed their investigation and that they were still looking into it.

I got fed up waiting in the middle of February 2010 and contacted the FOS who sent me the relevant forms to fill in and they requested that I fill them in and post it back with any relevant correspondance that I had received, plus copies of my letters as well which I sent in the middle on March 2010.

Finally I received a letter from Barclays saying they were prepared to refund the amount in full at the end of March 2010.

The remaining amount of the loan will be paid off using the PPI overpayments and then the remaining amount is to be paid back to me.

Thanks to everyone who contributes to this site. :money:

    Hi,

I first heard about reclaiming PPI when Claims Advisory Group called me. They sent me a pack and want to charge me 38% of any claim on a no win no fee basis. I then looked here and thought I would do it myself.

Claims Advisory Group keep calling. They have told me now that the template letters are no longer being accepted by the banks and that if I try and fail myself then I wont be able to try again with them.

Is this true? Should I just let them do it because it will be easier or should I ignore them and do it myself?

    Thanks in advance

    Jonnie

    Hi jonniejensen,

Having been successful in my reclaim this year using the template letters just ignore the Group that keep contacting you and go for it using the way that you feel most comfortable.

Email response from LLoyds in regards of the 2 loan PPI's.....

Hello and thank you for your e-mail sent on the 12th April 2010.

I apologise for the delays in receiving your payments, however, you should hopefully receive the refund amounts shortly. I am unfortunately unable to give you a specific date as to when the refunds will enter your account. I can confirm that both refund letters were sent to you today with a break down of both refund amounts.

I will be contacting our refunds department today to chase the progress of your refund payments.

    Thank you for your patience.

    Kind Regards,

    Lloyds TSB Customer Care.

How much did you get back: approx £4500 (awaiting payment)
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Sent only 1 letter.

Very pleased to report another Lloyds TSB success. OH sent the first letter about 4 weeks ago, had to resend it as there had been a glitch in scanning it, but then after about 2 further weeks he had a letter back saying they accepted what he was saying and agreed to pay the amount back, plus 8% interest on each payment and on the total between the date he finished paying and when he signed the letter (yesterday).

Which all in all should add up to about £4500!

What were you reclaiming: Loan PPI
    Who was the provider: Egg
How much did you get back: £3831.80
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: 1 letter

I took out a £10k loan with Egg in 2004, the PPI on which was £2814.50.

I'd thought about claiming back the PPI previously, but didn't truly believe that I could get it back. After reading that Egg had been fined previously for the misselling of PPI, I thought I'd try. I downloaded the template, reworded some minor sections to make it read better, stating simply that they had been fined in the past, and sent the letter by recorded delivery on 26th March.

On the 3rd April, I received a letter from Egg (dated 30th March) that they were going to refund the PPI, plus interest - a total of £3831.80 - within the next 7-10 days.

On the 6th April, I had my money back. I've paid off the balance of the loan (just waitng for their online service to be updated), and have a decent amount left over to go towards other debts.

For the cost of one letter, I've wiped off 40% of my debts and have potentially halved the time it will take to pay them all off.
