Back in October 2009 I requested a loan statement for an old loan I had with Welcome Finance, after dragging their feet I finally received it nearly three months later, I had rang them to chase it but was told they had 40 working days. After 40 working days I rang again and was told this was not true and that they had 7 working days but that they had posted it out to me in 3 working days(I don't believe they did). They sent me another copy and then I used the template from this website to make my claim. I received a response weeks later which was a complaints questionnaire and letter which said I had to fill in the questionnaire to enable them to assess my complaint. I highlighted that I had been told I wouldn't get the loan if I didn't accept the PPI and gave my income details and work sick pay allowances etc. I received a letter a few weeks later to say they were still investigating and then two weeks ago I got a final reply saying they had upheld my complaint and was refunding me £2045 which included what I had paid plus 8% interest. I was shocked to find that on a £10k loan (settling it after 1 year) they had charged me so much PPI. They advised me to sign the acceptance form and return it in the stamped address envelope or refer to the ombudsman leaflet if I was refusing the offer. There was no leaflet or envelope so I had to send it back to the address on the letter headed paper. The following week I contacted them to check the address was right, there was no contact details on the letter head or the internet even though they have a contact us page with no contact details on! I rang my branch and got the central number and then waited on hold for 30 mins! I was told they had removed all contact details because they were getting inundated with calls so basically they have made it so people can't contact them! I asked the employee had they received my acceptance form and was told it wasn't on the system but that didn't mean they hadn't received it. I asked how long it would take to get my cheque once they'd received it and was told it would be 14 days from when they processed it. I asked for an e mail when they had processed it so I could monitor the timescale and was told they don't have access to e mail. What kind of mickey mouse organisation is this! I asked for a call which he agreed to and to date 14 days later I have not received one so I can only assume they either still haven't processed my acceptance or they are ignoring my request of a call. I tried to ring the other day and there was a fault with the line so I'll have to chase them again on Monday and no doubt wait ages on hold! This companies comms are appalling but to all those who are claiming from them just keep on their backs as I am sure it will pay off, I am not going to stop hassling them until I receive my cheque and it has cleared in my bank!

well done on getting your success :beer::beer:

  • After 6 months after starting the process Firstplus have sent me a cheque for over 4K....they did not agree they had missold the PPI policy but agreed nevertheless to settle as a gesture of goodwill....
They have reset the loan and repaid all my PPI payments on it...
Any of you still out there with Firstplus keep going....they rejected my claim a couple of times but rescinded eventually..
    Don't give up!

  • Hi,

I first heard about reclaiming PPI when Claims Advisory Group called me. They sent me a pack and want to charge me 38% of any claim on a no win no fee basis. I then looked here and thought I would do it myself.

Claims Advisory Group keep calling. They have told me now that the template letters are no longer being accepted by the banks and that if I try and fail myself then I wont be able to try again with them.

Is this true? Should I just let them do it because it will be easier or should I ignore them and do it myself?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi there

I would not personally go with a claims company, so glad your thinking about having a go yourself.
As far as I know people are still using template letters, I have not heard any different, but just as long as you write your reasons that apply to you.

However, template letters all look the same by banks, so its suggested to write your own letter to request they refund ALL you have paid in PPI, plus interest, and basically request they refund you like the Financial ombudsman service would (FOS), and also request for the 8% interest of what a court would award for being deprived of your money.

They have 8 weeks to respond, and write at the end, I expect to receive a full and final response by 8 weeks from the date of my letter, and something along the lines of, if you do not uphold in my favour or respond by the 8 weeks I will consider complaining to the FOS or to the courts.

I have been doing my own and never used to and to be honest have had more success directly without using a template letter, you have to try to make your letter quite strong, not abusive, but straight forward etc.;)

You do not have to write the amounts, as they should supply them to you if your successful, or you request they send them to you.

    And post by recorded delivery.

Although you can of course follow Martin's guidelines of reclaiming to help you through the process of reclaiming.
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance

(Write to the ones who set up the loan as they are the ones who are responsible).

You can check out ideas on the template on this link here if you want to and use it as a guide:
    http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-files/Money/documents/2007/10/26/PPIreclaim.pdf

Hope this helps, good luck and give it a go yourself, this way you will get to keep all your PPI refund.

Please let us know how you get on though, cheers.:)

hi there, dont use the claims company. di is spot on, write it in your own words keep it simple and straight to the point, you go for it tell the claims co to take a running jump!!!!!!!
knew it wouldnt be long before these companys would use even more underhand tactics, banks have to acknowledge all claims, does not matter if they are on loo paper, the back of a cereal packet, a template letter, or in your own words. the b******s
