- Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: 1st Letter
Received 2 holding letters, looking into complaint.
Had a bit of a wait for figures due to MBNA not sending info through.
:jToday I have received a letter in lunchtime post. Payment will be made by cheque within the next 14 days.
For anyone who needs breakdown
Refund of premium added at inception £3222.45
Refund of interest added at inception £ 905.03
Compensatory interest @ 8% £1378.14
Many thanks to all who have offered advice and support through this. I would also add thanks to the team at BOS who have been helpful and professional in the dealings I have had with them :T. I have been told that my previous loan PPI claim is being calculated and will receive info soon.
I can't wait to get this money and pay off some horrid high interest cards, and the amount is a little more than I had calculated so that is a bonus.
Good luck everyone.0 -
Got home from work this lunchtime and found a letter on the mat from Northern Rock about the PPI reclaim I have ongoing. Opened it thinking "here we go.... sorry but go away" but to my delight was offering me full refund of PPI refund plus 8% statutory interest totalling almost £5500! This was after one letter and a follow up phone call. As the loan is still ongoing my new monthly payments have also gone down by £110! Should get the money in my bank in about 21 days so a big thanks to all at MSE for their support and good advice. Also as has been said in previous posts thanks to the NR staff for their prompt response and lack of foot dragging as has been seen by other banks.
Northern Rock - WON
Co Op/Bank of Scotland/Barclaycard to go!:money::T:beer:0 -

Was really pleased with the refund as the reclaim was based on being single premium PPI and basically profiteering, and not such as full sickpay or self employed basis (the obvious ones). Seems that NR are looking to pay out as soon as possible to clear any backlog they may have.0

What were you reclaiming: HSBC Graduate loan PPI
Who was the provider: HSBC
How much did you get back: £1900
Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: 1 letter and a few phone calls.
And then write your brief reclaim tale
My husband and I took out a graduate loan back in 2003. We were told by the bank that taking the ppi would help our claim. We had never had a loan before and so agreed. We were not told exactly how much it was or that we could look elsewhere. Also we were not told that it only covered one of us- me. This in itself was useless as i work in the NHS and have good sick pay and also have many pre-existing conditions, whereas my husband (who wasn't covered) worked in the private sector with no sick pay and no medical conditions. So basically I would probably not have needed to claim and if i did it would prob not work due to my medical history. My husband was not covered at all.
I wrote one letter in sept this year using martins template. After 8 weeks had heard nothing so phoned HSBC. They gave me the name and direct line of the lady handling my claim. She was able to tell me a date by which i would have a decision and was very helpful. She said to phone her today for the decision as with the xmas post we would not hear for a few days. The complaint has been upheld and we are getting back all our payments so far plus 8% interest. They are also restructuring the remaining year and a half on the loan at the same terms and conditions. This means we will save a further £44 a month which is a lot to us.
I am sooo happy and relived that it was all so straightforward. HSBC were actually very helpful on the phone. Should have the money by 2nd week in january! Means we can relax a bit now and enjoy a lovely xmas.
Thank you to Martin and all the posters on here who encouraged me to go for it!:j0 -
