I sent Barclaycard a letter in August based on a template I saw on here asking for them to refund the PPI on a card I had since 2003 which I had been unaware of until I transfered a balance back onto it in July of this year. I had no original paperwork but I thought it was worth a punt.
They sent me out a questionaire almost immediately, which was only 2 pages long, I filled this in and sent it back.
They sent me a letter about 6 weeks later telling me that they were sorry it was taking longer than they thought to investigate and I could complain to the ombudsman if I wished.
I telephoned them and said that I would give them another 2 weeks before making a complaint to the ombudsman and almost exactly 2 weeks later I received a letter offering me the PPI, original interest and 8% simple interest on the total, in all almost £3800!
Well worth the very little time and effort it took me!

After 1st letter drafted from template downloaded from here

I had just recieved a statement at the end of the loan period which showed the amount charged for the Payment protection :eek:- it amounted to about 25% of the loan amount.

I think the same week I heard about misselling issues on the radio and tracked down Martins :money:site - 1 letter later and I have found what appears to be the Insurance amount £2700 + interest ~ £800.
I guess the letter is in the post confirming this but this is great news on the run up to xmas.:D

• How much did you get back: so far £850.00
  
• Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: Went to the Ombudsman
• And then write your brief reclaim tale

Took out a loan 17 months ago and was coerced into taking PPI, complained initially to Black Horse, no joy, so went via Ombudsman in June this year, who found in my favour beginning Oct., at last today have received the refund of all the PPI element paid only, direct into my a/c today!!

Have been told via telephone I will receive the interest and compensation before Christmas, however nothing in writing/acknowledgment etc received from Black Horse, they really are a shower of ****!

I think (but not 100% sure) that Freedom were regulated in 2004. I would find that out with FOS though by asking if they were members of the GISC (General Insurance Standards Council) at that date (whatever date you actually took out your loan!!) as if they were not then the only way that FOS could help (if needed) would be to make the complaint against the insurer.

Good luck and find it out from FOS too and post back.
