  • Recently I had a letter come through from Liverpool Vic telling me that the FSA had found them to have sold PPI inappropriately and that I may be entitled to a refund of the ppi premium+interest etc if I felt that that had been the case.
Well I wasn't sure at first because I thought it was just a letter that they had sent for information etc. I did write back and say that that was the case and I just received a letter telling me that they would give me a refund. That amazed I followed this up again with another loan taken out before 2005 and they have sent me another letter with a refund offer on that too!
I did cancel PPI on both loans with them a while back but due to missold ppi have been offered refunds!
I think Liverpool Vic have been very professional because had they not written to me I would not have thought about writing letters about this to them.

I did a couple of years ago cancel my ppi with Tesco but they never refunded me anything which by rules now they should so I have written to them also - Depending on what they say I may follow up with the FOS.

  • About 18 months ago I took out PPI on a secured loan with a major high street bank. During the discussions to arrange the loan, I said no twice to the salesman, but eventually he persuaded me by a subtle kind of blackmail talking about 'it's the roof over your head, you know, if you can't make the payments'. I gave in, but I remember feeling uncomfortable about it.
This summer I paid off the loan and read about PPI mis-selling on moneysavingexpert. I thought I had little to lose by filing a complaint, but I wasn't hopeful - after all, this was a reputable bank, no-one had blatantly tricked me into buying the PPI or held a gun to my head, and I had made a choice. Did I have a case? But I did remember feeling pressurised, and that was enought for me to feel something wasn't right.
I sent off the first letter as per Martin's insrtuctions. Sure enough, as Martin said, a few weeks later, the bank replied and said it did not agree I had been mis-sold the PPI and it would not pay me a penny. So I wrote the second letter and asked for a more detailed investigation. The bank then had to go back over the transcript of the phone calls between me and the salesman. It wrote back with a long letter, summarising the phone calls and using quotes from the phone calls from me and the salesman. Again it said no, I did not have a case and it would not refund any money.
They said if I still disagreed, I should phone them to discuss. I followed their instructions carefully - it's important to follow the correct complaints procedure before going to the ombudsman - and called them. I told them, very calmly and politely, that I was still not satisfied. I said that, as their detailed investigation helpfully proved, I said no twice and yet the salesman had persisted. I told them that I thought two no's was enough for a salesman to stop, so I wanted the bank to refer my complaint to senior mangement. The woman on the other end of the line sounded resigned, almost like she agreed with me. I think then I knew I'd made a breakthrough.
The bank wrote back to me last week. The letter began with the same old line, no we don't accept you were mis-sold, we handled it all professionally, etc etc. BUT to resolve the complaint we'd like to offer you a full refund + interest - the best part of £2,000. No admission of liability, but who cares - in real terms I beat the bank and the money is back in my pocket. I'd hoped for may be £200-300 in compensation at best, but to get a full refund had me jumping around the living room. My four-year overdraft is now history.
So to anyone out there wondering whether to reclaim PPI - do it, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Just make sure you follow Martin's instructions, he knows the score.:money::T
  • Hi All,
Just recieved this email off black horse .... on a sunday afternoon!!!!

went to FOS after sending off letters to Blackhorse for ppi reclaim, FOS found in my favour in september 2009, but hadn't recieved anything off them. so tried the route of sending them an email to find out what was going on at the beginning of November, still had no reply so sent another email giving them until 14th December to conclude my claim. then BINGO!!! Will update you all when the cheque arrives.

Good luck everyone on your claims, just dont give up, keep plugging away, you will get your money back!

    Dear Mr

Thank you for your email. I have checked our records and I can confirm that we have received your letters of acceptance, which were dated 9th October 2009. We have agreed with the Financial Ombudsman Service that we will issue any payments due within 12 weeks and we are currently working through any cases where payments need to be processed in date order according to when the acceptance letters were received.

I will ensure that you receive any payment that is due to you by 14th December 2009.

    Regards

    Alison

  • Thankyou, I could do with the money that I have been offered back but at the end of the day its mine anyway as I have paid loads on the loan with the ppi over the years and it hurts! and I will fight all of the way if need be to get my entitlement back.

    Hi there,

I have just had a letter back from Egg CC saying that I was not miss sold the PPI during an online app as
    their online sales process
    a. does not require taking the PPI as a condition of obtaining the CC
b.does not provide an advisory service
c.required you positively to confirm that you wished to purchase the policy during the online app
d.provided full t's and c's of the policy and requested that you read them before submitting.

Help!!!! I dont remember ticking a box!! They also have enclosed a copy of the real time application and said that if I had not opted into the PPI then the box would say none not accident, sickness, unemployment and life.
I was working at the time as a relief care worker and not in full time permanent work so I would no have opted knowingly.

Any advice please or do I just leave it??

    thanks
    sarah

Hi there I received the exact same reply from EGG have sent off second letter now just waiting for reply. Don't know if you noticed that the section on my real time application showed the PPI in a section of the form that the company would use to set credit limits and put in credit scores etc so how is it showing us that we ticked a box? Keep going with you're claim will let you know what responce I get.

Ask Egg if their online process told you that you could shop around for the ppi and buy elsewhere and also see if the ppi was added to your loan to work out the installment for the loan over the whole period? if so then that is misselling I would say. Remember in your second letter to request a refund and a mention that you may have to pursue further with FOS depending on their reply. Good luck.
