hoping someone on here can help me! i took out an account with kays catalogue 12 years ago and still use the same account now. since reading about all this in the paper i checked my statements and see that i've been paying ppi for the last 12 years!!!!!! i'm sure this must run into a large sum of money but im not sure if you can claim back from catalogues or not??? i still have the account and i noticed someone else left a message on here saying they claimed from freemans. can someone help me and let me know if you can claim back from catalogues and if so, do you phone them first or write to them?? any help would be appreciated thanks0

Hello there;)
You can try to reclaim the on the insurance if you were mis sold for any reason, the only thing is, the older they are it maybe more difficult, and this will also depend if the company were covered by for example GISC, where the FSA taken over in Jan 2005, the financial ombudsman service (FOS) will only be able to investigate if these businesses were covered by the such as above regulators.
I would check any paperwork you may have and give it a go if you feel you were mis sold for any reason and hopefully you will receive more responses on this as well, especially for the ones who have been claiming in regards of catalogue insurance.
Are you still paying for the insurance now?
If so and you do not require this, I'm sure you can cancel and maybe ask if they could refund you.
For more information on mis selling with a checklist of mis selling reasons and templates check here:

They have 8 weeks to respond in full, keep at them until they send you a final decision, they should let you know in the final decision if your able to take your complaint to the FOS, if your not happy with the outcome.
Always best as well to post by recorded delivery, as this is your proof of posting, good luck and please let us know how you get on, and do ask if you require further help.;)

Am n a tussle with first plus. We took loan with them april 04, if we took ppi and dd not claim for 5 years we could have the premiums paid back, wife had a car accident in 07, firstplus actively encouraged her not to claim on the ppi and we missed a couple of payments. Explained all this to them, got the money, brought the account up to date by the date they had agreed with us. In April 09 we asked how do we go about reclaiming, told as the account was paid up to date and to contact the insurers. The we get a letter saying sorry cannot claim as went into arrears, fair one but we agreed with you and when we asked about claiming it was not mentione as we were told the account was up to date. We then find it was added to the loan, we no longer have cover and we are paying the same without ppi as we were when we had it. Got the letter back saying that they cannot agree that the policy as mis sold. Advised to go to the FOS if we wish to continue. To make it worse when the wife spoke to them on the phone r the claim in May, they encouraged her to make a retrospective claim. Anyone any positive advice please?0

Don't be put off by them. Their policies are a joke and the FOS is upholding most complaints of single premiums.0 -

Don't make any claim on the policy! If you were to, it would be very difficult/near impossible to re-claim the ppi, which is probably why they advised your wife to make a retrospective claim. So when the FOS contacts them they can say that the policy was fair because you used it! Am in my own tussle with First Pish, still awaiting a proper response to my 1st letter. They are going to make me wait the full 8 weeks before telling me to go to the FOS I suspect! That way they can make interest on the money they still have before they potentially have to refund it.
Good Luck

We went down the pre-existing illness route using the templates provided on this website.
We received a letter a week later from Bank of Scotland explaining that they have 8 weeks to come back with an answer etc...standard response.
2 days ago we got another letter stating that they wont accept liability but will refund us the money plus applicable interest! They will be writing again shortly with the amount to be refunded.
So pleased and glad that I went ahead with this. Thanks for everyones success storys as without those I wouldn't have done it.

Quick update on our claim - we got another letter last Friday from Bank of Scotland with the amount that we will be refunded - £5494!!!
Can't quite believe it to be honest - stunned! The whole process took just over a month.0 -

Hi there when you took the insurance out was it voluntary or was it because you could not have the o.d unless you had the protection?:mad:0
