    • What were you reclaiming: PPI off a loan
    • Who was the provider: HSBC
    • How much did you get back: £709.19
    • Loan amount: £6,000.00
    • Premium: £1534.00
    • Did you get it back after a letter or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: First Letter sent only
I'd been meaning to get the ball rolling with my very first loan for a long time. I had seen this on GMTV and read more on this website and finally plucked up the courage to go ahead. After finding out all of my loan papers, I started with the oldest loan first (as I re-did my loan two further times from the original).

I only had to write one letter (using the template from the website) and they contacted me after three days to acknowledge my letter and they'd be in touch. A couple of days before the four-week deadline I got a letter saying that I was in a queue and that they needed longer, so would be in touch in no later than four weeks time.

It was coming up to the fourth week when I got a letter. They said they didn't accept my allegations, but they were prepared to settle my complaint. They said it wasn't their intention to respond specifically to the individual issues other than how they intend to resolve the matter.

I only made seven payments on my premium (before I had to renew my loan to borrow extra money) so they refunded me the payments, early settlement and the 8% interest bringing my total to £709.19.

I'm so glad I found out how to reclaim and had the courage to do it - look where it's got me! Only one letter! I intend to do the same for my two other loans as I will surely be owed money back on the payments I had made on them, even if it is only for a few payments.

Hopefully I will have the same success with these two remaining ones, should I leave this for a while before starting again on those, or go for it?

Thanks for the advice, it's a good month for me as a result!

    Thanks!

For the last two loans I am able to claim on - should I complain about these separately, or could I write the one letter for both (as long as I quote both loan numbers, and details etc.)?

If you have the same reasons for both loans, there is no harm in putting them together, make them aware the reasons for mis selling are the same for both Loan PPI, and remember to enclose the loan numbers for both.

Otherwise you can write them separately.;)
    Good luck.

This is where i'm up to with HSBC at the moment, had the same two letters.

The second one is dated 25th June so 2.5 weeks ago, saying I am in a queue and they will respond within 4 weeks..

Hope the next one is as successful as yours.
  • Has anyone had any luck getting their mis-sold PPI via the FO? I contacted them well over a yr ago and all I get from them is a letter every now again saying that they will contact me in another 4 weeks with an update on the situation due to the high demand in complaints.

    Hi There

Please do not be concerned the FOS are very busy and it can take up to 18 months. I have one that has just gone to an adjudicator that has been with them nearly 18 months now.
